My menu (well, the gluten-free portion anyway. A few family members are bringing along gluten-y dishes too)

Brined and roasted organic pastured turkey (I always follow Alton Brown's Good Eats Turkey recipe)

Gluten-free, corn-free, sugar-free, dairy-free herbed dressing (recipe on my blog, address on my profile!)

Gluten-free, sugar-free cornbread dressing

Gluten-free gravy (recipe on my blog!)

Sour cream slow-cooker mashed potatoes (from A Year of Slow Cooking)

Cranberries (brought by my SIL)

Broccoli Cheese Rice Casserole

Mashed sweet potatoes (brought by my MIL)

Steamed veggies (brought by my MIL)

Waldorf (brought by my mother)

Gluten-free, corn-free, sugar-free, dairy-free pecan pie (The Almond Flour Cookbook)

Gluten-free sweet potato pie (Gluten-Free Goddess .com)

I can't wait! (especially for the stuffing - I made it and the gravy in advance, but of course I had to taste it - yum!)

Roda Rising Star

It will be the four of us, my husband, two boys and myself.

Turkey breast

mashed potatoes with gravy

steamed peas

homemade brazillian cheese bread

cranberry and buckwheat/wild rice salad (for me..noone else likes it)

cranberry sauce

pumpkin pie (for the boys and I)

some kind of cherry desert (for hubby)

Nothing to fancy.

summerteeth Enthusiast

Turkey, unstuffed.

Rice and sausage stuffing

Mashed taters and gravy (with cornstarch)

Regular gluten-y stuffing for the rest of my family

Green beans w/ olive oil and slivered almonds

Corn

Sweet potato fries

Homemade cranberry sauce

Rolls (reminds me: need to make rolls for myself!)

Pumpkin pie for everyone else

Flourless chocolate cake for me

Funny thing is, pre-gluten free I HATED Thanksgiving food. Despised it. Now that I can't eat most of the "normal" stuff, I'm kind of excited! And the fact that my amazing (non-gluten-free) mom took out the time to make almost everything gluten free even though of the 20 people there, I am the only one that follows the diet.

DMarie Apprentice

It will just our family of 5 (of which 3 of us are gluten-free - and 2 of us are Gluten-free Casein-free). We are having:

Roasted Turkey

Stuffing (both gluten-free and regular kind - cooked outside of the turkey)

Mashed Potatoes (with gluten-free gravy)

Sweet Potatoe Casserole (Gluten-free Casein-free)

Corn

Green Beans that have simmered with bacon, onion and garlic

Hot rolls (both gluten-free and regular)

Fresh Cranberry Sauce

Deviled eggs

Celery sticks with cream cheese and peanut butter

Fresh Fruit Salad

Pecan Pie (gluten-free crust)

Praline Pumpkin Custard Pie (gluten-free crust and Gluten-free Casein-free filling)

Cinnamon-Sugar Pecans

Hot Mulled Apple Cider

Looking forward to all of the leftovers!! :D My family loves to make "Turkey Bowls" after Thanksgiving. Simply layer mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, turkey and cranberry sauce in a bowl, warm in microwave and enjoy! :)

Those are some major lists! Good luck with the prep! My family's going to my in-laws and my two boys are the gluten-free ones. Since they're young they don't stuff themselves. :) So they picked a few things for me to make and take. Cornbread (in place of stuffing) and pumpkin bars for dessert. At my in-laws they can choose turkey or ham, vegetable side (my guess is corn) and whatever else that's naturally gluten-free if they choose (raw veggies, fruit, etc).

Hmm lets see, I hate turkey and I am full blooded Italian..ok then I am cooking for myself so here goes...

Chicken Parm w/ gluten-free breadcrumbs and gluten-free penne pasta.

gluten-free Vanilla cake w/vanilla frosting

Ya that'll work.....

Weird, I know... :D

I have an Italian friend and her family does a full Thanksgiving and a a full Italian dinner on Thanksgiving. Pre-gluten-free I always got a pan of eggplant parmesan. :(

My SIL's family doesn't eat any of the traditional stuff, so they just eat a big spread of what they like best.

Eh, when my MIL had Thanksgiving with her side of the family (also full blooded Italian), ravioli (homemade, of course) was a required dish. :)

Exactly. We Italians, love our Italian food during the Holidays. And for Christmas, never turkey always homemade pasta and sauce with meatballs, ribs and sausage....Wooo I am getting hungry! LOL. :D

Gonna be making it all gluten-free this year too...quite the experience for my mom, whom I think she has celiac (we find out in Feb 2010), but they (her and my dad) are going to make it gluten-free with me this year....very exciting.

Well it looks to be just Hubby and I so it will most likely be

Filet Mignon

Mashed Potatoes

Bread for him

Pumpkin Pie Pudding or a new crustless recipe for pumpkin pie I may try...

Due to severe adhesion issue I can only eat 6 oz so was not all that thrilled with the "big meal" idea anyway....

Just Thankful..

We are going to be DH, Mom and my son and girlfriend and daughter who will be up from Indy for the day,

bacon and pepper crusted turkey

stuffing

green bean casserole

mashed potatoes

turkey gravy

cole slaw

rolls

peach pie

pumpkin pie

DD already called to ask if the turkey was cooking already. It's her favorite meal of the day. I told her I know we slow cook it but it won't go in till tonight! And she swoons over mashed potatoes and gravy.

I'm just so thankful to have them both home!

I'm drooling over all these great menus. Everything sounds so good!

We're only having four this year so I'm keeping it rather simple . . .

Roast turkey (bought a 13 pounder)

Dressing baked outside the bird (made for the gluten eaters)

Wild Rice Pilaf with celery, onions & mushrooms

Giblet Gravy (gluten-free!)

Cranberry Sauce

Four Bean Salad

Buttered Peas with Pearl Onions

White Wine

Pecan Pie for the gluten eaters

I don't need dessert and didn't make any for myself this year. I had thought about making a crustless pumpkin pie like I did last year but canned pumpkin seems to be nonexistent this year. I may throw together one of those yummy brownies in a cup for my sweet treat. :)

we're having a "mixed menu".

Grandma (my mother in law) who actually has been a huge support - she has bought just about all the Betty Crocker mixes that are gluten free because one of her great joys in life is cooking for us. she actually is on board with the benefits th gluten free diet has had for me and my daughter, and in addition to those baking mixes, is using gluten free bread crumbs for recipes that require that.

She was despairing over Thanksgiving however... so I told her, just cook the bird you always cook. My husband and my son would be very disappointed if you didn't! (and at this point, they don't have an identified problem with gluten.)

So here is our menu. Grandma lives just a few miles away. We are cooking in both kitchens, then transporting Grandma and her contributions over to our house, where we will all eat in our dining room.

Grandma's Traditional Turkey, with Bread/SodaCracker/Hamburg stuffing (not gluten-free)

Gravy (thickened with cornstarch only - so gluten-free!)

Dad's Fried Turkey (we have a turkey fryolater!)

Mom's experimental gluten-free Stuffing (baked on the side)

Squash (gluten-free)

Whipped Potatoes (gluten-free)

Peas

Pumpkin Pie with gluten-free piecrust

Ricotta Pie - think Italian Cheese cake - piecrust not gluten-free this year, but maybe next year!

I am pioneering a gluten free pie crust that my MIL is more than willing to use for her pies... depending on how mine comes out tomorrow!

my gluten free stuffing is a TOTAL experiment. It's based on a recipe I have made before, that starts with mushrooms sauteed with pork sausgage.... but since gluten-free bread tends to be "heavy" I am going to use a combination of cooked brown rice and crumbled gluten-free bread. Like I said, a total experiment. It may crash and burn... or be wonderful!

We will have six at our table this year. We will be eating:

Roasted Turkey

Stuffing cooked outside the bird (one regular, one gluten free)

Giblet gravy (gluten free)

mashed potatoes

sweet potato casserole

broccoli

cranberry sauce

gluten free cheddar biscuits (I make these often, I found the recipe here on the forum. I belive it was posted by celiac-mommy, if it was someone else, please forgive me. I want to give credit where it is due because they are delicious. These are made with Pamela's baking mix)

For dessert:

New York Style Cheescake (gluten free-crust made with Pamela's)

Creme Brulee (also gluten free)

I wish everyone a Happy and Blessed Day!

I forgot to add that after dinner, I remove all the meat from the turkey and put the carcass in the crockpot with carrots celery, and a quartered onion, cover with water and cook on low over night. The next morning I strain everything out discarding the vegetables etc., put the stock on the stove, add fresh carrots, celery, onions. I cook those until tender, add leftover turkey and have a delicious and flavorful soup.

Dinner was a total success!

We usually do one BIg bird - 20+ lbs - because we love leftovers. So this year we did two samll birds - 11 to 12 lbs apiece - one in the oven Grandmas way, one in the fryolater.

TOTAL success! And we think we can do even better next year.

For my mushroom/sausage sfuffing I made it per my usual recipe. For the bread crumbs, I substitued a foccacia flatbread I prepared first thing this AM from a Choebe mix. It was excellent! Next year, we are going to try to make grandma's stuffing with this, it worked so well.

We injected the to be fried bird with a last minute concoction and let it sit awhile.... awesome. We will be perfecting this technique

For pie crust, I used Namaste's biscuit mix. Very easy to use, came out well, light and not heavy at all.

All in all everything was wioked good!

I'm so proud of my first gluten-free/CF Thanksgiving!! My son had an allergic reaction to something, but we have no idea what it was... Everything was made at home so... I'm thinking its the Kool-Aid I let him have.

Does anyone know if Kirkland Imported French Brie is gluten free?

I am asking for my six year old. It took us four months to figure out what was going on- a brand of extra virgin olive oil we were using for every meal. We changed the brand she instantly got better- from Gi to nephropathy to joint pain, to tinnitus to dry eyes. You name a symptom and she has it when glutened, so it's difficult to second guess when it's all so obvious. Anyway, two months later, i bought another bottle of the same brand, and the olive oil was sourced form 5 different countries, as opposed to one. It took exactly a month for her symptom to start all over again. And sure enough it was the oil! I am sorta getting tired of trying to get these "healthy" oils glutening her. Does anyone have any thought on cooking oils that they think for sure are not contaminated, or any certified glutenfee brands they suggest? I'd appreciate. At this point, I just need any oil that's free of contamination- healthy or otherwise. Healthier is better. But i'll tkae anything. Thanks

@CeliacPsycho246, You might try cutting out dairy.  Some of us react to Casein, the protein in dairy, the same as to gluten.
    • trents
Yep, the edit window times out very quickly. It's okay. I got a good laugh out of it.
