Celiac.com 01/01/2022 - We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain foods, brands, or products are gluten-free. One question we've seen this holiday season is about wild rice.

Specifically, is wild rice gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is yes.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
Plain wild rice is gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. If nothing containing gluten is added to the wild rice, it will remain gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. Be especially careful about any spice or flavoring packets that come with packaged brands.

Many brands of wild rice are either labeled gluten-free, or contain no gluten ingredients. One example of a safe flavoring packet is Zatarain's Long Grain & Wild Rice, which comes with a packet that contains tamari from soy. The packet contains no wheat, and the label lists no allergens. As such, the product is considered gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

These top brands of wild rice are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

As always, read labels, avoid gluten ingredients, and choose carefully.
