Having a Bad Day at the Doctor's Office
Why do the nurses at the pediatrician's office have to be so rude? I love our doctor but her nurse stinks. She is rude and unconcerned. She always makes me feel like I am an over reacting mom. I honestly can't stand her today. I need to go and pray and it's a good thing we don't go in to see her until tomorrow, because I will have time to cool down. I just have had it with the run around with my daughter. It took over 2 years to get to where we are now, and you would think that they would jumpSafe Food List At Vg's Foog Center
Yesterday my husband and I went to VG's Food center and found a gluten free food list at the service counter. I thought this was very interesting. I am always looking for new things that are gluten-free, and different places that are easier to shop. When I picked up the list I was surprised to find that it was 2 pages long. It was organized by category, product, brand, and put into two very easy to read columns. Open Original Shared Link to go to their website. It also has a neat feature wheLately...
I have been Gluten Free for about 3 months now. I guess I should re-phrase...I have been aware of and learning to stay away from gluten-laden food items for about 3 months now. I think I am healing and my intestines seem to be getting back to "better." After a post on the forum regarding feeling horrible a few days after eating spicy foods when it had a chance to complete the digestive process, nightshades were mentioned. I have noticed that I don't seem to react to them as much, which gives meEating Gluten–Free is on the Rise
Dr. Peter Green and the Celiac Disease Center (CDC) at Columbia University is the only center in the US providing comprehensive medical care and nutritional consulting for adults and pediatrics with celiac disease. The cure: a gluten free diet. The CDC diagnoses and treats over 2000 patients annually. Children’s author Tina Turbin has been eating gluten free for about nine years, and has been actively researching, writing and promoting the need for increased awareness of celiac disease as well aPlease Help Me!
So this is my first time every blogging and i'm not sure how it works but i'm going to try my best. I'm fifteen years old and i've had the symptoms of celiac disease for almost four years now!I don't have celiac disease but i have an exremely high allergic reaction to gluten. Because of this, the docotrs couldn't diagnose me, but my mom and i figured it out for ourselves last summer. Now, i've been trying to stick to the diet and i really have been, but gluten keeps sneaking in! Of course, i havAnother Day Of Feeling Icky
Icky is a word that I have been using lately. I don't like using it because it reminds me that I don't feel good, great, wonderful, or ready to take on the day. I have a co-worker that has a sixth sense. She can "see" the color in people. I call her my barometer. When I start to feel this "ick" I walk over to her and she takes one look at me and gives me the thumbs down or a so-so gesture (we work in a call center so she can't "talk" to me all the time.) Today was a thumbs down day. I finishPancreas and Celiac Disease Link?
If I only knew I had celiac disease long before I was finally diagnosed. Now suffering celiac spru, gastroparesis and severe pancreatic insufficiency, I will never regain the full use of my pancreas. I am in the process of learning if the celiac or Lyme Disease was the biggest culprit in damage to my Pancreas. I'll keep you posted if anyone wants to know. My sons have been dianosed with Lyme and with the information on this site I've learned my youngest (16) may also have celiac disease.Gluten-Free iPod Applications
I recently learned that Triumph Dining has made an iPod/iPhone application based on their wonderful "Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping Guide." I thought, "How Wonderful!" and promptly bought it from the iTunes.com web site. Now I have this wonderful reference with me at the grocery store without having to lug a book along. But, you know what? Now that I've been gluten-free for 2 years, I pretty much know what's gluten free and what's not at my grocery store. And what I would REALLY like is for the pGluten-Free Conveniences. Fad Or Forever?
Until my daughter develops the ability to understand and communicate her feelings, I will have to guess if her bad belly is the source of a stomach bug, or the side effects of eating gluten. Because the entire world seems to be filled with germs, viruses and bacteria that are out to get children, a stomach bug seems to be a reasonable explanationExperimenting With Gluten Free Flours This Week
Just got back from the store and bought a bunch of different gluten free flours! I plan to do some experimenting this week and I'm excited to get started! My dad found out from my grandma that my great grandpa had issues with wheat. He never could eat it, his whole life. So I am wondering if he didn't have celiac disease. I mean back then I doubt anyone was really getting diagnosed. My grandma also has stomach and heartburn issues, similar to the issues I have and seemed interested in the glutenDairy
The day before Valentine's Day, we were having potatoes, asparagus, salad, and fish. I skipped the potatoes and had the rest. Turns out the fish had butter on it. I was never terrible allergic/sensitive to dairy. It was a tiny thing resulting from gluten intolerance that had gone unnoticed. So I went back on. And it doesn't seem to be bothering me, eight days from then. So I will happily slip back onto some chocolates, cocoa, butter, sour cream, cream cheese, and other things I might have misseNew Propel Not So Safe - Severe Dh And Digestive Issues
So I heard that propel had some new flavors and have added extra vitamins to help hydrate! Just what every celiac needs - extra hydration - turns out to be not so great for me! I though it could be good. Propel has always been gluten free, and helped with my dehydration issues immensely! I usually get the little flavor packets to carry in my purse just in case. Well I saw the new flavors and I grabbed the new peach one. It tasted a bit funny, so my son drank the rest of it. (I have learneMy 2Cents On More Glutenfree Food And Dining
My new favorites: Glutino Gluten Free Organic Bars (chocolate & peanut)-smaller than a "traditional" granola bar, but taste fabulous and travel well. Progresso Canned soup (low sodium chicken and wild rice)- $1.25 a can at Target with pop-off lid I don't really like creamy soups, but they have many gluten free soups, and many are LABELED gluten free! Glutino breakfast bar (reformulated) CRANBERRY. Really good. New formula is less chalky. Good to keep in car or to travel with. Good EaMy First Run Outside In Weeks
So I've already told you about my Na imbalance. I've had serious anxiety about running by myself without a partner after a few scares but I needed to do a 10 miler today and could NOT face doing it on the treadmill. Haven't ran outside in weeks and have only run over 6 2x in the past few months. Haven't ran 10 miles since mid-summer. So I knew it would be a struggle. I got everything ready including water and Jelly Beans sports supplements, gluten free runners have to use supplements soonerMaking Up For Lost Time
So I've been MIA lately! Sorry!! Last week was a busy week of working for school, teaching, and doing per diem. Didn't even have enough time to workout. Then this weekend was Scotty and my "Stay-cation" here in Boston. We got a priceline hotel for Saturday night and made the rule of "no car for the weekend". Ate at a lot of great places and was amazingly surprised by Legal Sea Food's gluten free menu. Finally tried out Nebo which was FABULOUS and at the Chart House on Sunday night theyMy Story Till (Semi)Diagnosis
I thought it would be good to explain my story to figuring out why my body was attacking me. It was started when I was young(apparently. Neither me or my family noticed anything strange until I hit 8th grade. Though recently figured out that all of my favorite foods from when I was younger were gluten free, and explained why sometimes when I was sick crackers would only make matters worse. As well as why I was constantly in the nurses office with a stomach ache(they always thought I was faking i1St Entry Of 2010- Valentine Don'Ts
Thanks so much for over 20,000 blog hits! I'm so humbled that you love my musings...or love to laugh at them...or laugh AT ME...or love to HATE me, lol. As you know, I enjoy singlehood more than the average person, so here are some of the romantic DON'Ts I've had to endure over the years from well-intentioned men (I'm recognizing their effort, really) attempting to hone their inner Don Juans: (the intention here is to amuse, but also to prevent further embarrassment and awkward moments) SapDysfunctional Thanksgiving: Quick Hit Rehash
Totally Gluten-Free turkey day again, but this time at my newly purchased house with my Major's mother and my mom&stepdad all in from Florida We did lots of fix-it stuff on my new house (bank repo) Parents woke at 4am (FL time 7am) and went to 24 hr Wal-Mart to buy me "appropriate" dishes and silverware (they said mine isn't heavy enough) for my belated birthday and early xmas gifts. My stepdad forgot to take his blood pressure meds on Tuesday (day 3)and blew his top and went MIA in tTrouble Eating Out Gluten-Free...Good or Bad?!
Since my husband is forced to be on a gluten free diet eating out has been a major issue for him. My family does a fair amount of eating out since both my husband and I work full time. At the end of day cooking a meal is the last thing on my mind. The problem for my husband is that most of his favorite restaurants have good amount of gluten dishes that he absolutely loves. Because of this eating out problem, I force myself to cook at home more often than usual and I have to constantly remind mysDr. Goldman Creates Carb-One Low Carb Gluten Free Muffins And Breads

These new products do not raise the blood sugar levels to any significant degree. They are safe for diabetic patients to eat. Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which the body is unable to utilize glucose (a simple sugar). As a result, glucose levels in the blood increase. This exposes the blood vessels and surrounding tissues to elevated levels of sugar which have a "corrosive" effect on these structures. After many years of this excess exposure to sugar, the blood vessels and tissues become irreversibly damaged which leads to the long term complications of diabetes such as blindness, kidney failure and amputationSuper Bowl (Weekend Part 2)
Ok, That entry was getting a bit long so I thought I'd continue here. We got home and I had to finish grading lab reports from last week and made a few questions for the student's exam on Thursday. Then it was time for the Super Bowl! Ok, I'll be honest...I googled, furniture surfed, craigs listed, house searched for the future, and played around more on the internet only to watch intently and shhhh Scott during the commercials. Before the game even started I put the computer down f-

John Scott pointed me to Wiki entry about the effect of diet on hookworm egg production: https://www.helminthictherapywiki.org/wiki/NA_incubation:_very_detailed_method_by_Alana#Promotion_of_egg_viability_by_dietary_manipulation
Nothing presently in my diet was mentioned in the article, but it does bring up the obvious point that my diet would naturally affect the health and wellness of the hookworms that live in my gut. Something to think about.

Yes, there are several gluten-free certifications out there (one is the GFCO), and the usual standard they claim is 10ppm, however, recent findings indicate that even the GFCO's higher standards may not ensure that foods they certify are gluten-free:
