Today's topic is restaurants. Really good ones, not just the chain places like Outback. I used to love eating out at fine restaurants (OK, and on our yearly road trip from NY to Louisiana to visit my husband's family, it was always Cracker Barrell). So where does a Celiac eat? On road trips now, the easiest thing is to scout out the nearest Outback or Boston Market. And I pack a cooler with cottage cheese, carrots, apples, hummus, tortilla chips, grapes, rice crackers and my favorite MiBeverages

yeah I can say not really a fan of having these blogs visible to all, gonna have to be careful about what I say on here. Not that I dont love anyone on these boards, but at least on LiveJournal I usually only allow those on my friends lists to see my entries and sometimes not even that. So hmm Ah well I can just copy and paste from there into here and then delete which things I do not want publicly viewed hereGlutened For The Second Time
Yesterday, I was hungry and I went to the cupboard. I noticed that we had Swoops--those chocolate Pringles-like things. The regular Reeses ones with milk chocolate are OK, so I falsely assumed that these would be--and then decided to check the label after eating FIVE. Way at the bottom of the list, after 'defatted peanuts' was WHEAT FLOUR. There is a hole in my intestine, ladies and gentleman.Eh...Rating My Blog
So what's up with that? Who wants to rate someone else's blog? What are we supposed to do...indicate that someone's blog is terrible? Or compare it to everyone else's blog and indicate that one is better than all the others? If you ask me, that feature should disappear. In fact, I'm on a mission to find out how to get it off my blog.5 Am Meanderings
My body and mind are not in agreement on what we should be doing right now. My body wants to sleep but my mind is quite active. I've made a "To do" list but it won't be still... So blogging is a good solution. And reading yours. All of us with this crucial part of our lives (eating) in common. I must lead a pretty dull life. I blogged for two days and ran out of things to say. I told my celiac story, so maybe I'll tell a little about my life...well my blog is supposed to be all about me, right? I'm a 45 year old married SAHM of two children...21 y.o. daughter and 16 y.o. son and I'm a Christian. I'm also an artist and I love to read. My husband is an electrical engineer and has spent most of his career life working with computer companies. About three yrs. ago heI Had Beer! (gluten Free Of Course!
Oh heaven, heaven, heaven! I've been gluten free since January 15, 2005 (over 6 months!) and this weekend I had beer for the first time in over a year. I had stopped drinking beer last summer because every time I had it, I would have two and feel hungover for the equivalent amount of days. At this point, I had no idea that I had Celiac's. I just knew that beer made me very, very ill. This weekend my husband Kurt and I went to Vermont and lo and behold- we walked into the gheneral store in WoodstLength Of Recovery And Today's Doctor Visit
I was going to address my recovery time, after the diagnosis. But, yesterday was a bad time for me emotionally, because of the doctor appointment today. My recovery is still ongoing after being diagnosed early February of 2004. As soon as I went gluten-free, I noticed a mark improvment right away and thought it would keep going at that pace. It did not. They said I would gain some of my weight back and I did not. I am still the size I was when I was diagnosed. I am probably at 50 % or soWelcome To My World
I haven't really thought this through, so I'll just plunge in. I was born under the sign of Airies, and that's the way we operate First, I'll tell you that I'm happy to be a Celiac. At first I was totally dismayed in disbelief. My Dr. was more surprised that I was. I figure he was expecting to find a malignancy, and he told me he was astounded to discover the Celiac Sprue through the biopsy.I've been gluten free since June 16th (2005) and I must be doing something right because I am feeling SGf Birthday
Today is my birthday! I am very fortunate to work with some great people. We have a potluck once a month for everyone on my team whose birthday is that month. We only have 10 people, so it's a manageable thing.Well, this month they had the potluck last week. And they decided to make it a gluten-free potluck. Isn't that kind? I hate to be the center of attention and I hate for the diet to be a burden to other people, but they insisted. They ran their ideas by me and they scoured ingredient lists.Continuing Gluten Free...one Week Now
Well today being Tuesday, July 26th, I am one week gluten-free for the first time in years. Not seeing any improvement in my sleep yet, but I guess that will take time. Not sure if it is the gluten that is causing me my sleep problems. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and we are going to try Tryptophan for my sleep. So I am anxious to see if that helps in any way. I read on one of the Celiac sites that our bodies don't absorb the tryptophan from our foods and that could be the cause oBrief H/o My Cd

some people are brilliant..... i went to a fast food restaurant today, ordered a cheeseburger, no bun of course, with lettuce, onion, tomato. they bring it out in the little dish, and had placed the cheese on the bottom of the burger! so basically it was stuck to the dish and I had a hamburger. didn't realize I had to tell them how to do that even....had a soft stool this morning. that's unusual since I had one last night. I felt lighter in the stomach area last night but still bloated inIntroduction
<p>Hi there. I'm 48 years old, and I was diagnosed with celiac disease in December 1998. It was a very sad time for me. I knew I should be happy that my medical problems could be solved by diet alone, without dangerous drugs and bad side effects, but still, I wept every night for the beloved foods I had to give up, and I mourned the ease with which I had formerly dined in restaurants and friends' homes. I was single, and I thought my social life (pathetic as it was) was over. Who'd want toSoups

John Scott pointed me to Wiki entry about the effect of diet on hookworm egg production: https://www.helminthictherapywiki.org/wiki/NA_incubation:_very_detailed_method_by_Alana#Promotion_of_egg_viability_by_dietary_manipulation
Nothing presently in my diet was mentioned in the article, but it does bring up the obvious point that my diet would naturally affect the health and wellness of the hookworms that live in my gut. Something to think about.

Yes, there are several gluten-free certifications out there (one is the GFCO), and the usual standard they claim is 10ppm, however, recent findings indicate that even the GFCO's higher standards may not ensure that foods they certify are gluten-free:
@Lauraferleo Simple Mills may have issues and is included in this article:
