Yep, that's what I'm talking about today. No! I don't have 'em!We have a long time friend that has celiac disease...was diagnosed over 10 yrs. ago after a mental breakdown. I think I wrote about him in one of my earlier entries. Anyway, he has been having trouble with his prostate, thought it was just the regular old man's problem (he's 70 something). Well, it turns out it's not his prostate after all. It's a great big hemorrhoid that is pressing on his prostate.I wanted to post this so th
We're going over to some friends' house to play 42 tonight (for those who don't know what that is, it's a domino game). We play lots of rounds of 42 and eat, eat, eat. The hostess called today to ask if I could eat Hershey's chocolate; said she was going to make something gluten-free for me. She's really sweet, is a diabetic herself so she knows what it's like to watch her diet. There's usually lots of good stuff that I can eat anyway, though, and I had already made a chocolate cake to take
WooHoo! They settled! Three down, five to go. We'll probably have to go ahead and go to court with at least one of the defendant's, but that's to be expected.
I spent the better part of the day in a legal mediation. Boring. Man, I'm glad I don't have to do that for a living We're involved in a patent litigation in which my husband is the inventor and the company who owns the patent has sued about 8-9 big companies for infringement. Because I'm a major stockholder, they wanted me to attend the mediation today to see if we could settle before trial, which is in October. It's not that I have anything of value to say or contribute to the mediation, t
Hey, I finally rec'd my Chebe bread order. Last night I used the original mix to make hot dog buns. They weren't like any bun I've every had, but they were good. Since the instructions said to flatten them out to about 1/2 inch, I thought they might rise. But no, they were still 1/2 inch thick when they finished cooking. They were crusty on the outside and kind of chewy on the inside. I sliced them in half lengthwise so we could put our hot dogs and bratwurst inside them. I ended up just
The patio is finished.

I painted a stream along the back edge of the patio. Here's a part of that:

It's an established fact. Cell phone companies only hire morons. Non-morons need not apply. I won't say I'm sorry to any phone company employee that may be reading this. Every last one of them is a moron. If it isn't true...then prove it...act like you have a brain.Early this summer we went to get a cell phone for our son. I must preface this with: My husband is a long time customer with Sprint. He got his cell phone when they first started offering cell service about 10 yrs. or so ago an
My son bought the lawn mowing business. Well...my husband and I loaned him the money for it. He's been working hard already contacting customers, becoming acquainted with the equipment and getting it all ready to go, setting up his schedule, etc. I think he'll be going out to mow for the first time tomorrow. I'm excited for him since this will probably be a life-changing experience...I hope for the best. My husband and I made the concrete pads to bolt the gazebo supports on to. Hopefully,
Wow, my picture made the screen so wide that I can't see the whole thing. I'm still bothered by my neck, although it's quite a bit better. I went to get my hair cut today and the lady who washed it took forever. I don't know what she was doing, but it wasn't helping my neck hanging backward over the sink like that for so long. I ordered some Chebe bread a couple of days ago and am hoping to make some hot-pocket like things for my son to take with him to school. It's really a challenge to
I've had a terrible crik (sp?) in my neck for the past week. It started Monday and by Tues. I could hardly turn my head. It was 90% better on Wed. and Thurs., but came back with a vengeance on Friday. Now it's better this morning. I don't know what's causing it. Ouch!
Here's another picture of a mural I did. I paint with a friend and she painted almost all of the water...did a fabulous job. I painted the whale tail and she painted the water all around it and pouring off of it. The wh
A couple of people have asked for my blackberry cobbler recipe, so here it is:2 cups sugar1/3 cup butter2 cups flour (I use Bob's Red Mill gluten-free)2 tsp. baking powder1 tsp. salt1 cup milk2 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)** 2 cups boiling water**The doughy part is overwhelming to me so I either increase the berries or half the dough part of the recipe. It turns out fine either way.Cream 1 cup of sugar with the butter; add flour, baking powder, salt, and milk; mix will. Pour into a 12x8
Got up at 6:30 this morning so I could get another coat of paint on my patio before the rain comes again. I won't complain about the rain because we sure need it. We've been as dry as bones around here this summer. But I'd sure like to get my painting done so I can put the gazebo up.I need to go to Home Depot to get the supplies I need to make some concrete pads to bolt the gazebo to so I don't have to bolt them directly into the patio. But, alas, I've got houseguests coming again. I've had
I was making good progress on painting my patio today. I've been holding off on painting for the past few days because rain was forcasted. We'd get a lot of thunder, lightning, and bluster so I didn't want to paint if it was going to get rained on before it dried. But we never got any rain. Today, I decided to just go ahead and paint...got a lot done, then it clouded up so much I decided to put my paints away and go inside. Sure enough, it came a downpour...all over my not-dry patio. Thank
My son's school started today, although it's just a half day and a party. He's in 11th grade now and it's his first time to drive himself. Eeek! I've dreaded this day.Last Sunday night we had a teenager die in our neighborhood. The driver was a 16 y.o. who just got his license the week before. His 15 y.o. friend was on the passenger side and a 14 y.o. boy was in the back. The main road coming into our neighborhood is two lanes both ways. As it passes our cul-de-sac it runs N/S and traveling
My daughter and I planned to go to the grand opening of the new Ikea store in the Dallas area yesterday. We were getting ready to go, but thankfully my daughter was listening to the radio and they were talking about the opening. They said that all the parking places were full and that the line to get in was all the way around the bldg.I hate crowds like that so we decided not to go. It's about a 30 minute drive for us so I would have been annoyed if I drove all that way and then wasn't able t
I don't like to write about health problems because when I actually write them down, I sound like a poor unhealthy sot...which I'm not. In fact, I've been remarkably healthy for someone who's unknowingly had a disease all her life. But I'm going to talk about my eyes. In addition to celiac disease, eye problems run in my family. It's a retina detachment disease called Waggoner-Steckler (sp?). My uncle has told me that the disease is named after our family (some claim to fame, huh?) becau
I usually like chocolate desserts...chocolate cake, choc. chip cookies, chocolate cheesecake, brownies, etc. But sometimes a good cobbler is what I crave. And I do love blackberry cobbler. That's something I missed for a while after going gluten-free...not that I had it often, it was just the thought of not being able to have it. Well, I learned how to make it gluten-free and it's excellent. I made it for a church get-together and everyone loved it. One person said she was surprised i
I'm usually a stickler about not cheating on the diet even though I never had any really terrible reactions. But a couple of months ago I went to a tea that a friend had for the ladies at church. Of course, tea sandwiches were served. Lots of different kinds of yummy things on little tiny pieces of bread. I love that kind of stuff. I didn't want to NOT eat anything and all the ladies said, "Oh you can just scrape the bread off and eat the fillings." I knew that the gluten leeched into the
So what's up with that? Who wants to rate someone else's blog? What are we supposed to do...indicate that someone's blog is terrible? Or compare it to everyone else's blog and indicate that one is better than all the others? If you ask me, that feature should disappear. In fact, I'm on a mission to find out how to get it off my blog.
I must lead a pretty dull life. I blogged for two days and ran out of things to say.
I told my celiac story, so maybe I'll tell a little about my life...well my blog is supposed to be all about me, right?
I'm a 45 year old married SAHM of two children...21 y.o. daughter and 16 y.o. son and I'm a Christian. I'm also an artist and I love to read.
My husband is an electrical engineer and has spent most of his career life working with computer companies. About three yrs. ago he
Wow, after reading a few blogs here and the suffering that so many celiacs have endured, I realize that I've had it easy!I have a very close family friend that had a mental breakdown when he was in his 50's. He was subsequently diagnosed with celiac disease so that's how I became familiar with the disease.Fast forward about 12 yrs. later and I happened to be talking to my uncle (mother's youngest brother) who, at the time, was about 54. He told me he had been losing weight by default. When I
It's Sunday. We just got back from worship services then eating at our favorite Indian food restaurant. Thankfully, most of their food is gluten-free. About the only thing we can't eat there is their wonderful flat bread (nan and roti). Oh, how we miss it!Lindylynn asked me what kind of dog Pearlie is. I'm not sure how to respond to her comment on my blog yet, so I'll just answer here. Pearlie is a Maltipoo (not a Bichon). A maltipoo is half Poodle, half Maltese. If the sire is a Maltese
Hi everybody. I'm just learning about blogs and trying to figure it all out. It's funny because my husband and I were talking about blogging last night and he asked me if I'd like for him to set up a blog for me (he's a computer genius ), but I said, "What would I have to talk about?" Then, lo and behold, this morning I got a message from celiac.com telling me that they have a new blog feature. It must be a sign that I need a blog.
