Then I Go Wow!
Today started off bad, at 8 am the phone goes, and it is the hospital telling me that they have booked me in for a gastroscope next Thursday at 8am. I know I need it done, even if I have been gluten free for over a year, just think it took a year for the appointment to come through. The doctor said it would take a while and that by the time I got it done I could've healed, and that it was more to make sure that nothing else was wrong with me. So I will go and do it, but I am nervous, what ifJanuary 10, 2007, Calm Before The Storm
Today the temperatures in the 50's. The forecast is for ice Friday and snow Saturday. That wouldn't be bad except I have to drive 160 miles + on Saturday. The wind is very strong today and that is making Abby (long-haired miniature dachshund) very nervous. She paces and growls and then crawls on our laps and shivers from nerves, then paces and growls some more. I still haven't gotten sick (yea!) Everyone around me has been sick or is sick. I'm doing all I can to stay healthy, washingHealthy Me
Everyone got sick but me. My husband got sick and threw up all X-mas night. I was afraid it was something I cooked, but that couldn't have been it because no other family member or guest got sick. I had a little of everything and I didn't get sick. So then I was really worried that it was a virus and that I was going to get it. I hate throwing up worse than anything. I end up sleeping on the bathroom floor. There is something familiar and comforting about laying on a hard, cold, bathroomMy Budget Diet For Jan. 9th
As I sit in the office kitchen eating my lunch that I brought from home, again, I often reflect on how much money being a celiac is saving me. Everyone eats out, well most people do, and I always carry in. Sure, I could order salads and what not, but boy...salad sure does get boring. I also don't buy a bunch of specialty foods. Sometimes I'll get a cake mix, cookies, or some Trader Joes rice pasta (the big round ziti noodles are the best), but mostly I just eat rice, potatos, and corn. SJanuary 07, 2007
Everyone is sick here but me! Hubby has tummy troubles and headcold, son has the headcold. I'm stuffed-up but no big deal. I think I'm avoiding this so far because my system is so much stronger, even with the dmards. My diet has been really good, my energy is better, my mood is definitely better. I sleep more soundly and wake rested. Everything seems to be processing thru my system better too. I know this is odd but I've noticed my hair color is brighter and shinier. Made my first gallavant to the GIANT liquor Mart in the small town my mom lives in. I joyfully discovered the New Grist in the back and paid for it while the 'rents shopped for cheapo wine for the New Year. As I stood waiting, a woman with a MULLET approaches me and gabs on and on about the coupon she just got to get a rebate on the giant bottle of the hard liquor the she just bought. And I just stared. At the mullet. And wondered how I could stealthily take a photo of it with my cell phone.Best Presents Received And Given
Best Material Presents I've Received: Antibacterial gel Handmade greeting card sets Jewelry cup with the names of my students cross-stitched inside the plastic sleeve A stamp with my name in Chinese Plane tickets Overpriced video of me swimming with dolphins that I'd never have bought myself Calendars Matching rings: my mom, my aunt and I got from my grandmother watch cards handwritten from my students candy bouquet flowers Best Presents I've Given that the recipients still tellHilariously Horrible Holiday Gifts I've Received
I'm sure I'm not the perfect gift giver, and I don't want to seem ungracious, because these gifts give me great stories to tell and I've often regifted them to people who hopefully appreciated them or could use them. I'm sure everyone meant well upon giving them...almost everyone. I really do crack myself up when I recount them. Here they are in the order they occur to me: 1. A size 14 (in Girls-child- size) fake velvet dress-from a student who probably and misguidedly expected me to wear it.Eating Out Once A Day
Since I was out of town with family for two weeks, I ate out once a day, on average. I was kinda excited to visit Steak N Shake and Famous Dave's, Carnivale, and Lou Malnati's Pizza, none of which are available in California where I am. Steak N Shake. Good bunless burger. Not allowed to eat the fries, fryers not designated. GREAT new Strawberry Banana Real Fruit Frozen Yogurt Shakes! MMMMmmmm We had a coupon and YUM-O. I chomped pizza, guzzled beer, savored chocolate fondue, crunched Emeril's popcorn candy bundt cake, sipped Tom & Jerry's, and slurped yogurt shakes. Yeah, Ba-Bay! I think I gained a few pounds! My clothes aren't loose! There's actually a GOOD side to my stepdad having OCD...I got my own miniature butter for my stay and they only use squeezable jelly and there are never crumbs in or on anything!!!!!Plus my mom has a pan in which they only cook eggs, so she used that to cook my food in.January 3, 2007
I'm feeling very good. DH has been so wonderful about my diet now that he understands some of the consequences. That makes it much easier to cook and have him suggest meals. I have been cooking two meals the last couple of nights because h and s wanted things that had wheat in them. They haven't hassled me about eating "their" meal at all. H went to the store the other night and bought some deli fried chicken and bought me my own roasted chicken that he thoroughly checked the ingredients.Dinner Tonight
Tonight we had a wonderful dinner: Roast chicken with lemon pepper, celery salt, thyme, and rosemary, cooked at 350* for 1 hour White rice (not as nutritious as brown, but the brown rice is too hard on my 1 year old's tummy) Sauteed veggies, yellow squash and zucchini with onion and oranges for dessert. My co-worker at the office keeps trying to offer me cookies and pastries. I came back from the bathroom and she had left this Bavarian pastry dipped in chocolate on a napkin on my desk.January 1, 2007
Today was nice and laid back. Last nights soy sauce left no ill will on the day and today's eating has been great. I started my low carb diet again today, I've been eating too many fruits lately, and I feel good tonight. I've had cheese, cucumbers, red peppers, roasted chicken, some gluten-free sausage, lots of tea, green beans with bacon and onion. Other than being dizzy from the mtx, I feel very good tonight. I'd love to exercise but should probably wait until I'm not so dizzy. INew Year's Eve
Well, today I am 44. It's been a quiet birthday. We've had maybe 3 inches of snow and it's really cold. Dh and Ds got me 1/2 season of Center Ice which will kick in January 8. I'm looking forward to that. I also got a Loreena McKennett celiac disease and a nintendo ds game, tombraider. Brother #1 called to wish me a happy birthday but then we got to discussing brother #2. Seems b2 is still mad about something that happened when Dad died but still isn't telling me about it, he's just whiniComfort Foods/stomach Virus

This is a blog about my life and how I cope with Celiac. What I eat, things that I run into, reactions from other people, and reactions from me. The good. The bad. The ugly. I have been Dx'd for about 1.5 years. During that time my life was not only turned upside down from my diagnosis, but my daughter was also Dx'd with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes (both diseases are strongly linked, as I'm sure most of you already know) So, it's been a trying couple of years with a lot of adjustments. I am feeling good today! I started the day with a fruit smoothie, lunch was some leftover shrimp (no seasonings ) that I had made into a stir-fry last night. Snack was almond butter and dinner is going to be baked potato and not sure what protein. I have no stomach pains today, no depression or anxiety. I threw away the shrimp seasoning. That's the only thing I can figure that was getting me. I've had a very productive day. I vacuumed, then steam-cleaned my carpet. I've done 7 lo82. 13st! I Feel A Diet Coming On! Is The New Year Coming?
I guess I am lucky, I struggled to loose nearly a couple of stone a few years back (was 90kg/14st), and even adjusting to the gluten free diet in the beginning, I did not gain it back. I was really chuffed and told myself that no way was I ever going to get over 80kg, but look at me now, one year on and the weight is creeping back up, I am now 83 kilos, which is 13 stone! It is all the Christmas extra eating that is doing it. Not so much chocolate, but in general just eating more. I feeDecember 27, 2006
Another very bad night. I'm going to check the shrimp seasoning I use, I thought it was gluten-free but I'm questioning that. I had shrimp and a baked potato last night and was miserable. Hubby was in the room and heard the gurgling and all and I think finally understands what it does to me. I'm going to double check the seasonings and write to the company. I can't handle these events much more. On a good note, I found some great sales yesterday. I don't normally shop on the 26th buNew!

What a great Christmas! My Mother in law was so sweet and bought some really great Christmas gadgets. She got us a black and decker jar lid opener. What a help! There are days when I can't even open a bottle of water to drink so this is a real treasure. She also got us a hot water heater that heats two or three cups of water at a time. I think she saw me struggling to lift my tea kettle and took mercy on me. She also got us a bacon barn. It's a great little setup to microwave bacon with-
