I Think I'm In Mourning!

Having just been confirmed that I have Celiac Disease a few days ago, the doctor had me make an appointment with a nutritionist which will be this coming Thursday. The nutritionist is having me make a list of foods that I eat and like. As I was making this list it occurred to me that many.....MANY of these foods I will no longer be able to eat and that makes me very sad. I think of going to IGGY's and having clam cakes and chowder....that luscious New England chowder...thick and creamy white, so thick you can stand your spoon up in the bowl...I can't imagine having to eat Manhattan chowder!!! WOW!!! A Red Sox fan having to eat something from Yankee territory??? It's a SACRALIGE!! They will ban me from Boston! lol....and those clam cakes....and fish and chips, pasta with alfredo sauce.....my mom's pork pie....maybe she will be able to make a gluten-free crust?....meatloaf....the only thing I make well...(are there gluten-free bread crumbs?)....and desert.... Dunkin' Donuts....cakes....chocolate chip cookies from Meeting Street Cafe'....so warm and soft and chewy....and M & M's.... :( Well...it will be a definite lifestyle change for my junk food eating habits....all for the better I'm sure....So, today I will be going grocery shopping and looking for gluten-free things to get me started in this new lifestyle, but in the back of my mind....will be thoughts of sugarplums dancing in my head. But first I must finish my laundry.

Well, it's now 6:05 p.m. and I spent most of the day shopping for gluten-free groceries. Went to several different stores after reading that they had gluten-free products, but found the selection very minimal. One store had pasta, but not much else, the other had salad dressing and a few cookies and snacks, the third had some cereal....finally ended up at Whole Foods where the selection was very good but also very expensive....hopefully, as Siren said, this will be tax deductable! Have to get Uncle Sam every chance I have. ha ha I bought enough to make some pasta and a meat sauce, and a meatloaf so that should get me through the week before seeing the nutritionist. Also some bread so I can make some peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. Well, it appears I have cooking to do for the rest of the evening, so I will depart to the kitchen...... Siren, care to help with any of this??? lol

Once I was diagnosed I went thru my cupboard and saw that everything i had for side dishes was packed with gluten...:(

So I took my happy self, (and my credit card) to Spouts , whole foods and sunflower markets. I was extremely surprised by Whole Foods tiny section of Gluten free products. (and the price too- ouch)

Spouts is much much cheaper then Whole foods. Im not sure where you live , but look to see if you have these stores near you.

(also, I swear by Kinnikwick (spelling) bread/bun mix. Its a single serving bag , you can make as little or as much as you need, so your not wasting a whole loaf.
