I am 15 and i was just recently diagnosed with celiac's Diease. I have had very bad stomach pains and lots of other pain in my abdomin. i seem to miss alot of school. My mom does not like that i do. I either stay home or go to school for a little bit then come home. My Mom gets very mad when i do. I tell her i can't help it and she just says try to stay longer beucasue you've already missed enough school this year and I know you dont feel good but you need to try. She always says that she knows how i feel but she does not have that pain i do. seens i have celica how many days of school is normal for me to miss ? is my mom over reactioning?

JosieDaisy, I have a 15-yr old daughter who was diagnosed w/ celiac disease 13 months ago and has been gluten-free since. Before she was diagnosed, she missed several weeks of school a year. In the 7 months she's been in 9th grade, she has only missed a few days, which is a huge improvement!

So, when were you diagnosed with celiac and have you gone gluten-free?

JosieDaisy, I also have a teenage daughter who for 4 years was misdiagnosed. She missed alot of days at school also, I, like your Mom would also tell her to try and stay longer for I know how the school boards can be with missing days. It is very hard, as a parent and also as the person who is suffering with the pain and the emontional roller coaster that you are on. Ask your Mom to talk to your counselor to see if they can help. Schools do have plans put in place that might be able to help you until you can get yourself back on your feet. I wish you the world of luck with everything and I pray that you do start to feel better.

You do need to be gluten free( like the above comment says) and know that it does take a while from going gluten free to feeling better.

My daughter has been gluten free for about 1 year and she is so much better.
