Some Background Info And Posts To The Yahoo Group
not planning on making this a continuous blog but using this as a description of my condition.gastroparesis is an awful paralysis of the internal smooth muscles of the stomach. A normal persons stomach will automatically contract at regular intervals helping to churn and digest food. When the nerve impulses to perform this involuntary activity slow down or even cease then severe digestive distress will result. Sometimes the cause is known eg. stomach surgery accidentally severs the vagus nerve. Very often the condition is ideopathic (cause unknown). I've had slowly but surely gradually increasing symptoms for 15+ years in the ideopathic category.some posts to another community give some background info at my situationrom: "mikej253" <mikej253@yahoo.com> Date: Sun Aug 7, 2005 11:45 am Subject: PER: UPD: getting tested for gluten/ celiac disease mikej253 Offline Send Emailday before yesterday was a fairly good stomach day, although at about 4pm i gotlightheaded but wasn't sure if my stomach was empty - eating while food still insidemystomach causes probs and i lost my sense of hunger about 2yrs ago so its notobviouswhen i should eat. occassionally i get a glimpse of what its like to be hungrybut it doesn'thappen often. anyway i didn't get the timeing of my rice cake snak right andended upfeeling nauseous due to too much energy starvation - been tested for diabetesseveraltimes and i'm not apperently. yesterday same scenario but i ate rice cake intime, i thinki'm feeling better, but close inspection of the ingredients of rice cakes had"flavours(contains barley gluten)". threw them in the bin in disgust-damn, started to feel immediately worse altho it was prolly only a trace amountplus onlymy second gluten-free day. got to wait about 2.5 wks for enterolab results. definatelycan fit moremilk in my now at brekky - 2 oz of regular plus 2.5 oz yohghurt plus about 2.5oz of halfand half - increase in my consumption of lactose enzyme capsules is responsiblefor this, which alerted me to possibility that i am lactose intolerant, and many lactoseintolerantsare celiacs i believe...not holding out much hope for gluten being the cause of all my probs, but wortha goso far haven't dared to deviate from a gluten-free lunch recipe that i can cope with - 21/2 -> 3tortilla, 1/4 banana, 2.5 oz baked beans, < .5 oz of various nut butters (myonly source ofvariety so far) plus marmite (is gluten-free) and 2oz of cooked rice -resembles a burrrito but no one normal would call it that.all weighed on my electronic scales - helps stop me worrying about did i eat toomuch? orrcould i have fitted more in?but this technique doesn't take account good days, bad days energy expenditureetc so itsnot perfect.. i can cope better with discomfort and wind on weekend so might try some ricenoodleswith one egg tomorrow if i'm feeling brave.--- In gastroparesis@yahoogroups.com, "mikej253" <mikej253@y...> wrote:> thats good to know Jeannette,> I did a brief search and looked at some of your posts on that subject.
