Home Again Today

Tried to go into work again today, and only made it 45 minutes this time. Got REALLY sick. Guess I need to stop eating for a day or two until my system calms down. It is nice to know though that it is Celiac, and I can for the most part control this. And it is better than it was 2 months ago. Not one week could pass without missing at least a few hours because of the diarrhea. I've made it almost 3 weeks now.

I babysat my nephews all day Saturday, and my sister had NOTHING in her house that was gluten-free. I figured she would have tuna, or fruit, or something. Everything is frozen food--fish sticks, corndogs, etc, etc. Anyway, I wasn't going to eat anything, but after an entire day of not eating, I was starving by late evening, so I had a burrito, hoping that would better than breaded chicken or fish sticks. I figured if I got sick, it would be Sunday so no big deal, then I'd be fine. Guess not. I actually started getting stomach cramps about 2 am Sunday morning, and the diarrhea started about 8 hours later. The thing is, except for the stomach cramps, I really don't feel any different than I usually do, so I feel guilty about going home, but I can't get to the bathroom fast enough at work, which is what happened today. (I'm disabled and walk with crutches, so it takes a little more time and effort to get to the bathroom.)

I guess it is due to my own stupidity, I knowingly ate it, but I couldn't go back to my house to get anything because I live too far away.

Next time I babysit, she is going to make sure she has something I can eat. I don't want to always have to cart around food everywhere I go, especially when it's my family and they know.

Well, yeah, it's a pain, but we always need to be thinking ahead as to where we're going to be and what will be available to eat.

Yeah, I'm not quite 2 months into this, so I still haven't gotten into the mind set that I need to carry my food with me all the time. But I'm thinking ahead to Labor Day and not going to our family cabin for the weekend. That would be too stressful, and I probably would have to take most of my own food, because I heard what the menu will be. Easier to stay home in this instance.

I guess I'm kind of lucky in that regard. My oldest brother has celiac disease, too, so all of my family tries to make gluten-free food when we get together. Whenever we go visit my mother, she calls me constantly to ask "is this or that gluten free?". Actually, I'm pretty sure she has celiac disease, too, but she won't go on the diet. She has way more symptoms than I do, but her blood test came back negative, so she's relying on that.
