Holiday Challenge

This is a short vent. The assisted living my mom is in had a party Thursday night. They have one every month which has been good for the residents and the families. This time, it came right before Easter. I've got to tell them not to put their events so close to a holiday. It's not unusual for the main caregiver to also struggle with their health. There are three of us who are having a tough time. I'm the least of them. It is difficult to pull two events so close together.

Thursday was a difficult day all around. I did my Mom's hair in the morning and then dressed her before the party. She was having an off day and forgot she's on puréed foods. It was not good watching everyone else eating steak. My poor mom. I will never do that again. I stayed extra long so that we could share some better moments before she settled in for the night. Needless to say, it was a stressful evening and my body revolted yesterday. Today, I'm still so fatigued and achy but need to go grocery shopping for tomorrow's Easter supper. My mom expects to have a traditional Easter dinner and I'm tasked with making food we can all eat. So, my Mom's minestrone blended and some sardines will be the order of the day. I'm so sad not to be able to make her Easter more special. I hope her body is nourished by the food.

Time to go pull it together.

An hour later: shopping done, tablecloth and flowers bought. I'm going to rest and will take this in chunks. It won't take a Herculean effort. Just one step at a time. I included berries & goat yogurt to start, avocado for the fish and some expensive chocolate. At least our bellies will be healthy. It is what it is. Might as well make the best of it. We all eat like birds anyway.

Several hours later: a kitchen helper cut the veggies :). We have been rewarded with the most healing bowl of soup. Tomorrow I will gladly share it. Maybe this belongs under "Inspiration" :)

Day after Easter: It was worth it. My mom ate the soup and also enjoyed the berries and goat yogurt. Today, I am zonked. Someday I'll read this and say, "Wow, I was wiped out from making soup?".
