Hello I'm 10 and yesterday I was diagnosed with celiac disease. My parents said I handled it fine. About 3 months ago my dad was diagnosed with celiac disease, and about a month later I started getting stomach problems. My parents put me on that diet were you eat toast bananas apples and rice, and a week ago I went to the doctors and had some tests taken. Yesterday they called my parents and said I had tested positive. It's really my first day with celiac and its not that bad. I see no reason to feel worthless and/or useless because you are not alone. I see some good posts and some bad posts but all should be good. Please take note that we don't have cancer and may die--this should make us feel better. My grandparents told my mom that my dad looked kind of pale before he got celiac disease, and now they say he looks great and he's grown about 1½ inches. I'm scared with this too, but it's something that all of us are going to have to overcome. Check and see if there's a R.O.C.K. club in your county (Raise Our Celiac Kids) and if your new to this I recommend you read Living Gluten Free for Dummies. I tried gluten free pizza and gluten free cookies and they tasted no different than regular cookies and pizza. Thanks or listening to my post--God Bless. Joshua.

My name is Sharilin. My 8 year old daughter, Lauren, was just diagnosed with celiac. She is also a diabetic. We have 5 children all together and I plan to have all of us tested. We are from Nampa, Idaho but are currently living in Maryland. We want to come home badly.

Although we are not there, maybe you and Lauren could talk by e-mail? I think that would be nice. Would you like that?

Also, we are looking for support here in the DC Metro area. We currently are without transportation, so e-mail is awesome.

Thanks and God Bless.

Sharilin

Yes, there is a celiac support group that meets , like every other month in Meridian at St. Lukes. Jakes Gluten Free store is where we found out about a group.

322-5935. also, Cliff's in Caldwell sell gluten free & posted a letter from the support group. My husband been diagnosed about a month. We went to the last meeting--very helpful.

Hi Sharilin,

I would not mind talking with Lauren through e-mail. I will talk with my aunt and see if she knows of any support groups in the DC Metro area. She has had Celiac for 10 years now and has been my number one support group. Back home I have a ton of resources, and as soon as I get back from family vacation I can e-mail so information to you and your daughter.

Take care,

Jessi

Hi Jessi,

I don't have any information on support groups (glad to see others are helping you with that), but I wanted to let you know that Market Limone in Nampa carries a lot of gluten-free products. I even tried some cinnamon raisin bread from a Nampa company, Hydroblend, yesterday and it was pretty good. We're going to start carrying it next week, I think.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Jessi,

I was just searching for Celiac groups in Boise and came across your post. Hope your gluten-free diet is going well. Was going to start a Facebook page for Celiacs in Boise. Was thinking this would be a good way to get a group started. I too was finally diagnosed by my chiropractor last year. Have you had any luck in starting or find a support group?

I've been on a gluten free diet for about 10 days after an inconclusive diagnosis of celiac disease. I have a relative who has it, so it looks pretty likely that I do, too. I was starting to feel better for 3 or 4 days, and then feel like I had a bit of a set-back. I am 100% sure I have not had any gluten or dairy during that time. Has anyone else taken two steps forward and one step backward on their road to physical healing? If so, this would really put my mind at ease.

hello.

I recently got recently got diagnosed with celiac disease and I'm 14. Having bread and pasta being my favorite food was one of the biggest challenges of my life to loose to celiac. I've been on the gluten free diet for about 4 months now, still trying to get use to it. For over 2 years not knowing what I had at the time. I had pain, and cramps in my stomach for the longest time, going in and out of the hospital looking for answers and not getting any was very stressful. Finally taking a trip to Boise to see a doctor. Many tests were taken. But finally after 2 years I finally found what was wrong with me. So many symptoms from celiac, as in pain caused in the stomach, my symptom are worse. Doctors told me I have the worst of celiac disease. Its hard not having gluten but I have seen an increase of energy and I've lost weight.

Hi. I've been living with celiac for the past 4.5 years. I am searching for the best gluten free probiotic out there to help enhance my ability to digest and absorb all the nutrients in my food.

I am also looking for gluten free vitamins free of corn and soy in addition to the usual gluten free list. I recently learned that corn and soy are the two most cross contaminated because they are grown in the same fields used to wheat etc.

I also read that corn does have gluten in it. So corn can actually expose you to gluten twice. It's no wonder I cannot eat it!

I work with high school exchange student. We have a student from Spain, Carmen, who has celiacs. High schools in Nampa and Emmett have openings for her. Now, Carmen seeks a caring family that understands her issue to open their home to her while she is here. She enjoys playing volleyball and doing Zumba. Her favorite classes at school are biology, chemistry, and history. She hopes to study molecular biochemistry or pharmaceutical science in college. Carmen speaks English and has insurance and spending money.

If your family or someone you know may be interested in sharing your home with Carmen, please contact me.
