Finally I know the cause of all my problems at last, Lactose !!!

I can’t believe it now at 52 years old I know at long last the thing that I was always told was good for me was actually not, it was making me ill and I continued all these years putting up with Hives when I was younger, and then bloating, wind and slight bladder incontinence, Fibromyalgia, tingling and numb fingers (Carpel tunnel Syndrome )) overweight even though I didn’t eat excessively and all because of Lactose. It is hidden in so many things not just milk, it’s in medication, Gravies, packet soups, Lagers and so many other things but they do not list it in the ingredients, so I hope that will change soon, I’m wondering if Lactose is the underlying problem with Celiacs and then maybe Gluten reacts because of the damage Lactose has done, Who knows. My symptoms all go away if I stay way from Lactose but if I have it they return so I know I can’t have it, I wish I knew this years ago.

Or could it be the other way around? Could celiac disease be the underlying cause of dairy intolerance? By the way, Jackie, are you sure your problem is lactose intolerance and not casein intolerance. Many people mistakenly think they are lactose (the sugar in milk) when they are really casein (one of the proteins in milk) intolerant.

Also, did you mean to create a blog about this rather than a normal forum thread?

Sorry, I see a typo in my previous post. I meant to type, I'm "just" a moderator and I don't have the ability to delete posts or blogs. That requires full administrator privileges. You need to send a personal message to Scott Adams who is the forum administrator in order to get that done. Scroll to the top of the page and look in the upper right corner. There is an envelope symbol there. That's the PM tool. Click on it and click on "Compose New." Then type in "Scott Adams" without the quotes in the "To:" box. That will pull up his PM address. Click on his address to insert it in the "To:" box. Type in your subject and add your request in the lower, larger box and then click on "Send." The PM tool is like in house email.

Okay, I think I see where the misunderstanding is. By "you" were you were referring not to me but to yourself or anyone else as the original poster? You can edit a post or delete it's content entirely but there is a time window for doing so. I am not sure you can entirely delete the post altogether as opposed to leaving it blank. I'm not sure how that works for blogs but PM Scott Adams.

Jackie,

You might enjoy reading this article Celiac.com recently done on "What Cause Villous Atrophy Besides Celiac disease" including Lactose/Casein Intolerance.

I would suggest reading the comments....it has a lot of good resources that you might find interesting and helpful.

I had similar issues with Lactose as a kid....I am glad I not the only one who found out these might be connected conditions!!!

I just wanted to say it is probably the CASEIN and not the Lactose....

You can test this trying some Kefir....it 99% Lactose free but contains Casein...

The Lactose is the sugar portion of milk....Casein is the protein portion of Dairy people most react too....thinking it is a Lactose Allergy...

Or you can try a gluten-free Protein Bar......but not Casein free...

There are several bars to try/choose from...

The protein bars are usually heavily "Whey Based" for their protein source....

IF they bother you then IT is probably most certainly the CASEIN.

Confirming it is the Casein you are reacting to and not only the  Gluten....

I hope this is helpful but it is not medical advice.

Posterboy,

Thank you for your response,    I just stay away from milk altogether now, I have just started to take vitamin B6 and B12  and when my stomach lining heals who knows I may be able to tolerate some Dairy again I don’t know, maybe, and i’m not sure of this but have a little hunch that these allergies we are all getting are caused by a damaged stomach lining and by with drawing from acidic things ie. Tea, Coffee, Alcohol like wine for example, also milk for a long while, will give our stomach lining a breather and begin to heal, when you think of all those acidic things going into our delicate tummies day in day out and numerous cups of Tea and Coffee a day that people think are innocent, well they contain acids, no wonder we are all getting allergies. I drink mainly water and peppermint tea, only one a day and not every day at that, alcohol on the odd occasion and no milk, quite extreme I know, but I just want to heal my stomach by reducing these acidic things. Has milk damaged my stomach lining I had gastroenteritis when I was 6 months old, could that of been the start of my allergy journey ???
