Two Different Shoes

Well this is one of those days that don’t come around very often. As it was a teachers only day, and as I am not a teacher, I had the choice whether to come into work or not. So I opted to stay away, and catch up on a few things at home.

Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):
Had to finish my library book, “Map of the world” by Jane (Janet?) Hamilton, really good book, but already two days late. What should I read next? Any ideas? Needed to catch up with the washing, and make a loaf of c lee bread (gluten free, I call all my gluten frees c lees).

I had volunteered to make a pot of soup for school tomorrow. The ingredients were all given to me, and all I had to do, was just cook it. It did have barley in it, so it was a bit hard to tell whether the flavour was right or not, had to get hubby to try it. Fine he says. It is a bit like making the boys macaroni cheese, I just cannot try it to see how it tastes! I threw out all the normal flour last month, so there is no more of that left. On top of that I had thrown out all my stock cubes etc, so I did not have anything to flavour the soup with, so I threw in a little bit of curry.

We had fried rice for tea, after I had got caught out badly the other night eating a take out nasi goreng, I desperately wanted to try to cook a fried rice dish. Glad to say, it worked out, and the veggies were crisp, and there is enough for tomorrows lunch.

Well Saturday, I was a sight, I didn’t realise until I was out about the town, shopping, that I had put on two different shoes! I am beginning to wonder if I am blonde, time to get the dye out, so that I will have my excuse next time. I am blond.

I checked out prices for flying return to Christchurch from up here in northland, only to find out it would be $682 return. But if I went to Auckland just 160 km’s down the road and flew out from there, it would cost half the price. It would still be cheaper to go to Australia, and see my two oldest sons, and that is about 3,000 km’s away, instead of just the 1,000 to the south island. Isn’t it silly, cheaper to fly overseas than in my own country! A lot of money to go, but I have to go see my mum and dad, they are not getting any younger, and I love the snow, and they have had a bit of that lately. It will be quite a challenge moving away from my comfort zone up here. So far since diagnosis I have not ventured out much to try different foods, let alone go away for a few days. It will be a bit stressful, but I just need to eat what I eat here. No problem, fresh food is abundant here.

Well that is it for now. Must go to work, and watch the horrified faces when they taste the soup. Next time I might not volunteer, but it was the school chaplain in need of a favour, and I did not want to appear mean.
