Not So Tempting Turkey Day
Gobble Gobble wibble wobble. Thanksgiving for me is mouth watering memories of biscuits, pie, stuffing, etc. all homemade by Grandma. It's just not the same Gluten Free. Last year I ate with my boyfriend's Irish family. Not only does it SUCK watching everyone else eat the goodies, it REALLY is ANNOYING that there's ALWAYS some celiac ignorant person (in this case, his cousin a cook in a restaurant) trying to push food on me that I can't eat and refusing to take a simple no for an answer, wanting an explanation of why not for each item.
Celiac.com Sponsor (A13):
So, I'll attempt a gluten-free pecan pie, and heat up some gluten-free buns, and make some never as good as the real kind gravy with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc. But it won't be the same and that's that.
It sucked having thanksgiving with everyone else last year who had oodles of all the yummy stuff I couldn't have. Plus since my family is in Illinois, it made me MORE homesick to be around someone else's family.
So this year, I'll be alone. I'll have a nice movie on TV and indulge in gluten-free foods without worrying about cross contamination or smelling/seeing the real deals that I can't have.
And I'll be thankful that I'm not diabetic.
