Knock On Wood
You know what the coolest thing about being on the gluten-free diet has been for me so far? Not getting sick. I've been gluten-free for nearly three years now and have not had any cold or flu at all. I might have mentioned this previously in my blog, but it still amazes me. I don't know if it's because I'm off gluten, or because my kids are older and aren't bringing home all kinds of germs from their little friends, or because I've already had every cold virus there is...but whatever it is, it coincided with going gluten-free.

Even when my husband gets the flu and coughs in my face all night, I haven't caught it!
My daughter brought to my attention this past week that it has been a year for her since she's had a cold. Unfortunately, my son has been sick this week, though. Of course, he, being 17 and "invincible" is the one who cheats on the diet. I think he's sick because he's just worn out. He had to work from 4:30 a.m. till 11:00 p.m. the day after T-giving, then he had to get up the next day and work his regular eight hours. Then he brought a couple of friends over to spend the night and they stayed up nearly all night only to have to get up early for church on Sunday. He started feeling bad Sunday night, missed school and work on Monday, but is feeling better and went to school today. So, even though he did get sick, he seems to be recovering quickly.
My husband and I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons off and on for the past year. We take several lessons, learn a lot, then stop going. Then we start back up again and have to start all over because we've forgotten what we learned. Now we're taking lessons from a different instructor - much cheaper than before - and we're focusing on one dance for now. We've taken four lessons of East Coast Swing and are going to take four more, starting tonight. It's not my favorite dance, so I'll be requesting we switch to something else after this. I'm not crazy about swing at all, but of all the swing dances, I like the West Coast the best. I prefer to do the Mambo, Rumba, or Waltz. Unfortunately, I learn the dances much quicker than my husband so I know all these steps that I can't use because a lady can only be as good as her partner since he's the leader. I should have been a man.
I was an avid watcher of Dancing With the Stars this season. One thing that was pretty cool was that Emmitt and Cheryl practiced and filmed at the studio where my husband and I were taking lessons this summer. We met them on their first day there. Weird thing, though, we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement and couldn't tell anyone until the show was over. Emmitt was very good and much improved, but, let's face it - he is not a better dancer than Mario. I think Emmitt won because he was more personable than Mario. Mario was a showoff and that put people off. Emmitt came across as a truly nice guy and that gained him more fans.
We had a great T-giving dinner. Not a speck of gluten, but loads of delicious food. I still have pumpkin pie and cheesecake leftovers. I put them in the freezer so they'd last longer.
