Spontaneous Spells...
Just an "aha!" first---I CAN DRINK WOODCHUCK CIDER at the bar! YIPPEE!!! Plus, Chi-town has LOTS of gluten-free BEERS I plan on trying out for the first time...I'll let ya know how it all goes! These are important for meeting my goal of not talking or explaining about my diet much on the trip so I can try to take a bit of a mental vacation from my disease!

Spontaneous Spells...Trouble? So, when I'm planning a trip, I try to empty the fridge and not cook the day of my flight...and since I'm going to do nuts, berries, gluten-free crackers, pudding, and candy for the traveling itself...that leaves FAST FOOD for dinner the night before the flight. I always try to go at off times and I go inside the fast food place-no driving thru unless I do Wendy's chili...hoping for good service and attention to my "neediness". I really think the regular fast food joint is less of a risk than the compact version at the airport, right? They might share fryers and things.
And since I don't do fast food often, I never know what to get. And the bunless burger at Carl's Jr. was REALLY good (especially for me since I didn't eat meat for 10 yrs...I've come a long way!) BUT I didn't realize it comes with mayo on it and I hope that doesn't well, spell trouble for me.
I never did get a reaction from the other day when that zucchini ball was in the french fries! haha
Traveling involves lots of eating out. I did pretty good in N'Awlins with only one mild reaction to the JIffy cornbread.
I've planned LOTS of great EAT OUT places with gluten-free menus for Chicago where the most craved foods (most missed/longed for foods for me) are Chicago Style hot dogs (poppyseed bun and pickle)and Chicago style pizza (thick crust) and BBQ (sweet & Tangy): Lou Malnati's gluten-free pizza at the restaurant with a crust made of gluten-free sausage! Famous Dave's BBQ, Smoke Daddy has BBQ Ribs gluten-free, Adobo Grill, Vinci's Italian food, Wildfire Grill, Carnivale (Brazilian meat half naked men serve on giant skewers???AND fried plantains!),
There are also many more Health stores familiar with gluten-free, even regular grocery stores with gluten-free sections, so Ma and I are going shopping right away Sat. My mom has been SO supportive. She was NEVER one to baby me, but I think she's being so good about my gluten-free lifestyle because she was with me on trips where I'd been SO SICK and she felt so bad for me.
We're even cooking lasagna made with cauliflower instead of pasta for Christmas dinner!
So, Happy Holidays everyone!
I'm always so impressed by how hard so many of you try to make festivities celiac FRiendlY!
Oh-confession-after a month of being out, i finally bought my B12 and Iron vitamins today!
