Texas Roadhouse Restaurant

The Texas Roadhouse has a gluten-free menu. I went there tonight and they have quite a few things on the gluten-free menu. One puzzling thing is that you have to ask for your grilled meat to be prepared without "grill shortening". I can't imagine why their shortening would have gluten in it. I'll have to check that out.

I have a friend who has celiac disease and goes there often to have steak. I'm quite sure he hasn't thought to ask them to prepare it without the shortening, so I guess he's getting dosed with a bit of gluten each time. Even though he had a psychotic breakdown, suffers terribly from a rash that he thinks is caused by other allergens (I think it's dermatitis herpetiformis), and nearly died from weight loss and anemia several years ago before he was diagnosed, he's not particularly careful and often cheats on the diet. He doesn't really get gastrointestinal distress when he cheats so I think that he thinks it doesn't matter...as he sits there scratching his rash. :(

Anyway, I had the salmon, sweet potato and a salad with honey mustard dressing. It was very good, but I sure was lusting after the soft bread rolls with cinnamon-honey butter that my husband was scarfing down. <_<

There is one in McKinney right off 75 and a new one off of the George Bush Tollway (190) in Garland. They aren't only in Texas, though. The restaurant originated in Indiana - don't know why they didn't call it the Indiana Roadhouse.

For other locations, you can look at their website:
