Continuing Gluten Free...one Week Now

Well today being Tuesday, July 26th, I am one week gluten-free for the first time in years. Not seeing any improvement in my sleep yet, but I guess that will take time. Not sure if it is the gluten that is causing me my sleep problems. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and we are going to try Tryptophan for my sleep. So I am anxious to see if that helps in any way. I read on one of the Celiac sites that our bodies don't absorb the tryptophan from our foods and that could be the cause of my sleep issues. But we will see I guess.Had a real bad day yesterday, was so tired and absolutely no energy. I hate being like this, as I see so many things I would like to do, but can't find the energy to do them. My mind is willing but my body is weak.I need to get out and try to do more walking with my little dog, think that might help with some of my brain fog issues. This brain fog is the worst, it justs drives me up the wall. I am still not sure if it is gluten related or still an after affect of the withdrawal from the benzos. I was on medications for the best part of 20 years for depression and insomnia, and did a w/drawal over a period of a year, and have been drug free for 9 months. I had the brain fog when I was on the drugs as well.I have a hair appointment this afternoon, so must run and get ready to go. I would love to hear from anyone who has trouble with insomnia and the brain fog, I am on yahoo messenger. If your interested in chatting let me know. Thanks all,Deborah

That's interesting about the tryptophan, I'd never heard that. I wouldn't expect your sleeping problems to clear up quickly. You may have to wait for your intestines to heal before you start absorbing the nutrients you need or you might could get injections.

My daughter had problems with insomnia and fatigue. We discovered through a blood test that her B12 level was dangerously low. The doctor gave her a series of B12 injections which helped with her energy level immediately. Now she takes a maintenance dose orally, well, sublingually. My understanding is that sublinguals dissolve under the tongue and absorb that way rather than going through the instestines and stomache. For the insomnia, she takes melatonin (also sublingual) which has helped somewhat.

Hi Mosaics

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it will be interesting to see if the tryptophan helps in any way with my sleep issues. I have tried Melatonin, but had no success with it. Glad to hear your daughter is sleeping better. I have had my B12 level checked and it seems to be fine. I agree that it may take a little time for my intestinals to heal before I see much improvement in how I am feeling, but I am optimistic. Hope all continues to improve with your daughter.

Take Care
