I Had Beer! (gluten Free Of Course!

Oh heaven, heaven, heaven! I've been gluten free since January 15, 2005 (over 6 months!) and this weekend I had beer for the first time in over a year. I had stopped drinking beer last summer because every time I had it, I would have two and feel hungover for the equivalent amount of days. At this point, I had no idea that I had Celiac's. I just knew that beer made me very, very ill. This weekend my husband Kurt and I went to Vermont and lo and behold- we walked into the gheneral store in Woodstock and they had Bard's tale gluten-free ale. I almost did an Irish jig I was so happy. We were camping at a beautiful state park and I used to really enjoy having a few beers around the campfire, and now I could! It was so good- it tasted like a good microbrew and I woke up the next day and felt fine. It was surreal- I had ruled beer out for the rest of my life. And here I was having one.It really was the perfect weekend. We went swimming at a beautiful water hole, watched the sunset over the Green Mountains and had a delicious gluten free dinner. Scotia posted the following today under the "do you consider yourself sick thread":When's the last time you went to the veggie market and picked up some fresh fruit, bananas, strawberries, kiwi fruit, anything you like, then came home made a fruit salad, and sat outside in the sunshine and 'enjoyed' the feel of the sun on your skin as you ate your face off...gluten-free and Good for you...it's a start right...??? If you feel like being daring, throw some 'Haggen Dazs' or 'Breyers' Vanilla ice cream on top...there, now you've got it.Sick...Nah!!!...Go on, you can do it...put a smile on your face.ScotiaRight on Scotia- having Celiac's has helped me rediscover the simple pleasures in life and the things I can DO as opposed to the things I can't HAVE. Health to all, Beverly
