How To Get Better?

newby to celiac?

Wow! Diagnosed in January by a letter. Could not get an appointment with GI until March? Very overwhelmed. I have been on the diet for 3 weeks. Still not feeling better. How long does it take? I have had bone and joint pain, numbness, fatigue, GI symptoms, nausea, sleeping problems, sinus problems, dizziness, weight loss. I have been sick for 9 mos and have been told I was crazy and there was nothing wrong with me. Every test has been negative except my small intesting biopsy. If any one can tell me how long it takes to feel better that would be great??

Based on what I am reading in the discussion boards, when people start to feel better is uniqe to each person and may depend on how much damage has occured. I think everyone will tell you to persist with the diet. Also, cross contamination can be an issue if you have regular eaters in your household or if you eat out much. There is also hidden gluten in alot of foods you wouldn't suspect. You may have been diligent about checking into everything, but sometimes we got caught unawares with something like a spice or tomatoe sauce. I have also heard a lot of other people indicate that they need to cut out dairy for the first while as well until everything heals.

Hopefully you start feeling well soon!!

Newby,Hi, I know how you feel I was just diagnoised with celiac disease. Its like what do you eat or not eat. I went to the library and checked out some books. The best book I 'm ready is ABC'S OF GOURMET GLUTEN-FREE FAMILY LIVING AUTHOR IS DAPHNE G. PETTERS. Its like trial and era with food. In some people it depends on the damaged that has already took effect in our bodies. Wish you well. I have been on the diet since feb 13th. Still having problems. I tell myself don't give up
