Coincidence Or Fate?

:) Things are moving more quickly than I thought they might. I just started glutening myself two days ago, and I got a call this morning on an appointment with the GI specialist. It is in 3 1/2 weeks and is a "consultation" so I am assuming will just be a review of my medical history, symptoms and previous testing to decide what to do next. However, I am okay with it...gives me a chance to keep glutening myself with hopefully enough time for more symptoms and reactions to be noticeable. I am continuning to keep my food/symptom journal and will take that with me.

I am pretty sure I can handle a month or two of the diet. When testing is done, regardless of outcome, I am taking gluten out of my diet. I feel so much better without it, so regardless of diagnosis I will cut it out. Why then am I subjecting myself to all of this, one might ask? I have thought about it and there are a few reasons. I think the more diagnosis there is, the more it helps educate others (including the medical experts) about the wide range of symptoms that are out there. I think my family doctor is somewhat skeptical and it may open her eyes and make her think about it as a diagnosis for others that she might initially discount. My son is ADHD and I have read that it can be related to celiac (In "Dangerous Grains" the doctors recommend that any child being considered for an ADHD diagnosis be screened for celiac or gluten intolerance). He is getting of the age where unless there is a medical diagnosis, he will cheat. If I am positive, I will follow up on getting him tested (I might anyways) My husband is also not likely to support a signficant dietary change unless there is medical proof, sad as it is to admit. <_< Others in my family are reluctant to test unless I have a confirmed diagnosis, although some do show symptoms. Then there is also that nagging little part of me that wants to know (I guess that is the selfish bit).

So, I will carry on....

Well, it seems we do have some things in common. My appointment with the GI is due to me calling and saying I want to be tested.. the other doctors have not been able to figure it out.. I have been doing my own elimination test, and feeling so much better.. I know I should add gluten back in soon before my appointment.. thing is, I really do not want to.

I do not have any problems following the diet. I did strict low carb about 7 years ago.. followed it for a couple years.. I can do without pasta and bread.. The hard part, is you cannot just open a box or a bag of something and cook it.. like those pasta dishes, side dishes, etc. It takes more effort and planning. I miss the convenience.

I went home early from work yesterday, had a headache, stomach felt funky and I was tired... happened in the afternoon.. I did not think I had any gluten, I only had rice, a pork chop and a small bag of chips all day. I looked up the chips, said no wheat.. but maybe not. Anyway, when I got home I really wanted some saltine crackers or some toast with my tea. I have not bought any of the gluten free stuff yet.. it is kinda pricey and what if it doesn't taste good. I ate the oatmeal instead... The oatmeal seems to be okay so far.. but will keep watch on it.

I hope your hubby shows the support for your diet.. it can be really difficult to do this diet if someone thinks its unnecessary.
I once had someone tell me a little bit will not hurt you when I was doing the low carb.. I said, I know a little bit will not hurt me.. that is not the point.. the point is I do not want it. Why should I eat something I do not want. And know if someone says anything, I just say I am allergic.. that does the trick..

Good Luck to you!
