Mind Tricks And Food Logs

I am so glad I am keeping a food log. I have read of other people having this happen....it seemed like when I first reintroduced gluten I had symptoms that were more severe (stomach pains, bloating, burping, etc.), but it almost seems like after a couple of weeks, the symptoms are easing off and I am still on gluten.

Here is the trick though. I have been diligently keeping a food log of everything I eat and every symptom I notice, related or not....every burp, every rash, every canker sore, bathroom habits, everything. If I were not keeping note of all this, I would probably say to anyone who asked that I am actually feeling okay and maybe was just imagining the issues I was having. However, when I go through the food log (which I started keeping when gluten free) there are definitely symptoms that emerge in patterns that were not there when gluten free. I think after a couple of weeks of all the burping and other symptoms, they have started to feel normal and it is easy to foget they aren't. Before heading down this path I really didn't have severe symptoms (and still don't have what I would call some of the severe symptoms that others deal with) and if I were not keeping this log it would be very easy to say, oh it's nothing and just forget about it. I didn't notice how gassy and burpy I was before until I went off gluten and back on last summer.

So my word of advice for the day, if you are going down this path, keep a record of what you are eating and what happens when you eat it, especially if you aren't someone who experiences the immediate, severe reactions. It is definitely worth the time and may prevent you from straying off the course of pursuing things. I am also hoping the doc finds it helpful....2 1/2 more weeks to my appt!! :D
