Rockstars

I attend the Art institute of Dallas in the Graphic Design program, so most of my projects require a lot of work; with that comes, obviously, a lot of time. Like most college students, I stay up all night doing my projects most of the time. I started drinking Rockstar energy drinks because it's the only one I could find that doesn't contain artificial coloring (which have abhorrent effects to my mental state - Red makes me angry - Yellow makes me depressed - if blue effected me in a different way, M&M's would be vary cheap meds) or Sodium Benzoate (which I read can alter your DNA). I, however, have found myself becoming very depressed lately with these Rockstars; I'm trying to do a little more research to find the culprit of my depression among the 22 chemically enhanced ingredients. It was 23, but they recently took sodium benzoate out because of complaints. Who ever reads this, if you know of any other form of energy sufficient for a college student, please fill me in. I don't want to keep putting post-it notes on my shotgun reading "possible idea".

Yikes!! Be very careful when using joking comments like putting post-it notes on your shotgun saying, "possible idea." Especially with all the school shootings at colleges, this isn't a great comment to make, even jokingly. I am not reprimanding you, just be VERY careful with these types of comments as they can easily land you in treatment facility or worse, in jail.
Have you checked out the caffeine content in the beverage or the other ingredients that may be stimulants or depressants? The problem with these drinks is that they have so many "uppers" for a quick-fix power rush, then you crash once your body has metabolized the drink. This can lead to a very depressed feeling.
Also, have you actually considered the possibility that you are depressed and are suffering from depression? Depression can make you tired, irritable and unable to focus or concentrate. It can also affect your sleep. Maybe you aren't in need of an energy drink, but maybe you are depressed. I AM NOT A DOCTOR, but I went to college and found myself along the same path. One thing I didn't know is that all universities and colleges have free counseling services for enrolled students. It may be worth your time to go and talk to a professioanal and ask them about the beverage and the way you are feeling. The counselors are actual certified counselors, many with Ph D's and have to follow the same strict medical confidentiallity as private doctors and hospitals, so there's no fear that anything will go into your college records or future files. I TRULY HOPE YOU GO AND SPEAK WITH SOMEONE. You may also consider speaking with a dietician or nutritionist at your school (with the obesity rate increasing, the number of dietician and food counselors seems to do the same.)
PLEASE GO AND SPEAK TO SOMEONE!!!

Hey there Wild Bill- If Rockstar is making you put post-it notes on your shotgun stop using it. Not that I advocate staying up all night, but back in my day (Now I'm OLD :P and I TEACH college ) the choices of all nighting were slim- caffeine. I think I used to drink Jolt Cola (twice the sugar/twice the caffeine). I tried those over the counter up-all-night things once and it was HORRIFIC....I thought my heart was going to pound out of my chest!

Hmm...Ahem...clearing throat (Putting on professorial voice now): You could try to plan it so you don't need to pull all nighters. ;)

OK- back to regular voice. I know it's not easy since so many things are due at the same time in college and EVERY teacher thinks their class is the most important BUT you do need some sleep every night. Sleep deprivation alone could make you depressed.

Wish I had a magic answer for you, but if you ever want to "talk" you can ALWAYS PM/email me through the board.
