Wondering if pretzels are gluten-free? Most are not. Some are. Here's the rundown.

Celiac.com 10/11/2024 - Unless specifically labeled “Gluten Free,” pretzels are not gluten-free. Traditional pretzels are typically made from wheat flour, a key gluten-containing grain. For those with celiac disease, gluten intolerance, gluten sensitivity, or a wheat allergy, regular pretzels are off-limits. Gluten-free pretzels are made using alternative flours and starches that are safe for those who need to avoid gluten.

Not too long ago, good gluten-free pretzels were few and bar between. Now, gluten-free pretzels are becoming more widely available. Not only can you find them at specialty health food stores, but they are also stocked by many mainstream grocery stores, and even corner stores in many areas. Below is a list of some top brands of gluten-free pretzels.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
When shopping for gluten-free pretzels, always check for the “Gluten Free” label. This label ensures the pretzels meet FDA guidelines, containing less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten. These products are made with gluten-free ingredients and are manufactured in facilities that prevent cross-contamination with gluten.

    Strategies for Gluten-Free Snack Attacks
Celiac.com 03/12/2021 - The thing that can break any diet, whether the purpose is to lose weight, or to avoid certain foods, is not having a solid strategy to deal with between-meal hunger.  Snack attacks seem to hit during transitions: right after school or work: when returning to the house from an outing: when passing by the kitchen; in the late morning or late afternoon; driving; when the phone rings… just about any time that’s not a mealtime.  Temptations for infractions abound when visiting friends, going to parties, or meetings at work.  Food is present at virtually every gathering.
Couple this random hunger with intolerances to gluten, dairy, soy and other foods, and your choices are limited.  The best way to ensure that you don’t go hungry, or deviate, is to have an accepta...

    Gluten-Free Snacks
Celiac.com 04/02/2021 - On a gluten-free outing with nursing students, they presented an array of snacks that were listed as "gluten-free". After careful review and sampling, we came to the conclusion that fancy packaging costs more than the product inside! That means sampling is costly so healthy meals are better for a healthy bank account. Here is a summation of the gluten-free snacks sampled (GF labels mean it contains less than 20 ppm gluten).
Organic Crunchy Rice Rollers = various flavors and all the GF ingredients you could want BUT they were so dry that extra liquid was needed to eat just 1/2 roll.
Banana Vital " Simply Bananas" and "Simply Bananas + Guava" tasted good and was a good source of potassium, folate and magnesium for 90 calories and 17 grams sugar.
