Celiac.com 01/05/2023 - What cake or cookie can't be improved with some bright, colorful sprinkles? You know sprinkles, right, those colorful confectionary apostrophes of sugary delight? We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain products are gluten-free, especially when it comes to baking products and ingredients.

As we move into the heart of baking season, we've seen a lot of questions asking if sprinkles are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. So, are sprinkles gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease?

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
Most baking sprinkles are made with sugar, confectioners’ glaze, coloring, and carnauba wax, which don’t contain gluten. They can contain thickeners as well, but most are corn-based so are gluten-free.

A number of brands label their products as glute-free, while others don't but list no gluten or wheat allergens.

As always, read labels and avoid any gluten ingredients.

Brands of Gluten-Free or Naturally Gluten Free Sprinkles:

    Betty Crocker Sprinkles
Betty Crocker says its sprinkles are “Produced on a dedicated line that does not process peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, milk, or eggs.”

    Cake Mate
Cake Mate sprinkles are gluten free. According to the company, “None of our products contain wheat or gluten."

    Chef Select
Chef’s Select sprinkles are available at Amazon and labeled “Gluten Free Certified” on the front of the packaging.

    Kroger Rainbow Sprinkles
Kroger sprinkles contain no wheat or gluten ingredients, and list no wheat or gluten allergens.

    Pillsbury
Pillsbury Confetti Funfetti icing comes with sprinkles and candy bits. All packages of icing are labeled “gluten free,” meaning both the icing and candy pieces would be gluten free.

    Simple Truth
Also sold by Kroger, Simple Truth sprinkles contain no gluten ingredients and list no wheat or gluten allergens.

    Sweetapolita
Sweetapolita says its sprinkles and sprinkle medleys are gluten free, and “suitable for those with celiac disease”

    Wilton
According to the Wilton website, the company does not label any of its products as gluten free. However, it does disclose any wheat ingredients in its products, and none are listed.

    Gluten-Free Christmas Cake
Celiac.com 12/28/2020 - This cake started with a boxed gluten-free carrot cake, no dairy and non-GMO.  There are several gluten-free carrot cake mixes on the market, and this was made using a 20 oz. box of XO Baking Co. Gluten Free Carrot Gourmet Cake Mix (the entire box in other words).
The larger of the two cakes is almost too much for the two of us and our adult children (our grand-children hate Christmas Cake). Being from a British background I was raised on Christmas cake! In fact my brother-in-law used to fry it up for breakfast which was a bit “over the top”. The gluten-free box of gourmet carrot cake mix says, “Made with REAL carrots!" but what other carrots are there?
For the top of the cake I purchased Marzipan from a baking supply store and followed it up with Ro...
