Celiac.com 03/07/2022 - Gluten-free entrepreneur, website owner, and popular television chef, Carol Kicinski, has been charged by federal prosecutors for allegedly storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 while wearing a blue “TRUMP” hat.

Kicinski faces four federal criminal charges for her alleged role in the insurrection mob, including:

    • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) - Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds
    • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2) - Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
    • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(D) - Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building
    • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(G) - Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
Her companion, Jon Heneghan, a high-stakes poker player who lives with Kicinski in Dunedin, Florida, faces the same charges.

Kicinski is the owner of the magazine and website (simplygluten-free.com), Simply Gluten-Free, a national print and digital magazine dedicated to the gluten- and allergen-free lifestyle, which claims an annual readership of over 4 million.

Federal prosecutors charge that Kicinski and Heneghan were part of the pro-Trump mob of insurrectionists who breached the northwest doors of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, before making their way to the Rotunda, where prosecutors say they remained for half an hour.

To date, more than 770 people have been charged with crimes linked to the Capitol insurrection, while more than 213 people have pleaded guilty. The FBI is still seeking to identify people from the riot and siege of the Capitol.

Celiac.com was contacted by the owner of at least one prominent gluten-free product company who has decided to pull its ads, and sever all ties with Simply Gluten Free, effective immediately.

    Article Update by Scott Adams:

Celiac.com 03/23/2022 - This update is in response to comments on this article that Celiac.com did not perform proper due diligence before publishing it, and specifically regarding the ownership of Simply Gluten Free Magazine and Web site.

Soon after the 03/07/2022 publication date of our story, there were some big changes made to the corporate entities associated with Simply Gluten Free Magazine and Web site, which are detailed below.

According to Carol Kicinski's Wikipedia page: "The magazine is published by Edgewater Park Media, Inc., a media company based in Dunedin, Florida, owned by Simply Gluten Free Omnimedia," and that "She is the founder of Simply Gluten Free Omnimedia, Inc. Kicinski is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Simply Gluten Free magazine."

All information below is supported by publicly available documents:

When the Daily Beast's article broke on 02/23/2022, the "About" page on Simply Gluten Free's Web site was titled "Carol Kicinski: America’s Gluten Free Voice" and included Carol Kicinski's many accomplishments and her photo, and the following statements:

    • "...she is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Simply Gluten Free magazine..."
    • "Her fans have made her website and her very active blog one of the top gluten-free websites in the world..."
    • "Educating hundreds of thousands of people on gluten-free cooking and living through her website/blog."

Soon afterwards the "About" page on Simply Gluten Free's Web site has removed all mention of Carol Kicinski.

Carol Kicinski also claims to own all trademarks associated with the magazine and Web site.

The recent corporate changes leave us with some unanswered questions:

    • What is Carol Kicinski's current role in the company?
    • Did she resign from Simply Gluten Free? If so, when?

At the time our article ran Carol Kacinski was listed as the only officer and President of Simply Gluten Free Inc.. As of March 17, 2022 the officer of Simply Gluten Free Inc. has been changed to "Colin Kacinski," and Carol's name has been removed. Does this mean that Carol Kacinski has resigned as its President?

Or is it preparation for the legal fallout? Those photos are difficult to refute.

At some point, you all have to realise that the subtle trolling in the comments here is no longer a positive influence to the newsworthiness of the original post.   The moderators did not post this article to create a maelstrom of email for themselves... but, rather, because they thought it was noteworthy.

Sometimes it's okay (or even better) to simply not post a comment when it comes to divisive issues.  A simple ❤️ or *upvote* to the author does a great job of conveying your thanks or other views without it turning it more divisive.

Love you all and look forward to reading your classically intelligent replies to future articles!

Thanks for the link and for being a solid source of info for people with Celiac. You were my first information stop when I was diagnosed in 2003 and you’ve been a mainstay since.

Celiac.com did verify that Open Original Shared Link via a Florida corporation search, so you are not correct about her not being the owner. Feel free to click the link to see the documents yourself.

Look again you lazy reporters. I clicked the link and it’s not her name. You’re horrible. Even your “fact checking” is incorrect. Unbelievable! And I never said you were new… unreal you people call yourselves a place for news or information. You have so much wrong. And 30 years you’ve been around and you report so falsely? Wow. I remember when you would promote items that were heavily cross contaminated! The worst, that’s why we and many others left you. I’ll continue to support the real people that help the community with gluten allergies and others.
Watch out for this Scott Adams guy and the Jefferson Adams. These people can’t be trusted in this community.

Celiac.com 04/12/2011 - Paul Seelig was found guilty today of 23 counts of obtaining property by false pretense after a two-week trial in Durham, NC. The jury found that he illegally represented baked goods as gluten-free, but they actually contained gluten. Mr. Seelig received an 11 year prison sentence for his crimes, which included the sickening of more than two dozen customers, one of whom had a premature delivery that was possibly caused by her involuntary gluten consumption.
Seelig's company, Great Specialty Products, purchased regular gluten-containing items from companies in New Jersey such as Costco, and then repackaged them in his home kitchen and sold them as "gluten-free" at the NC State Fair, various street fairs and via home delivery. Lawsuit Claims Bob’s Red Mill Ignores RoundUp Pesticide in its Oat Products
Celiac.com 09/13/2018 - Bob’s Red Mill finds itself under fire by two women who claim the company knowingly hides the presence of an allegedly cancer-causing weed killer in its steel cut oat and rolled oat products, and falsely advertises those products as healthy.
Tamara Frankel and Natasha Paracha filed a federal class action in San Francisco, alleging that parent company Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods knows that its oat products contain or likely contain glyphosate, but fails to disclose it on the label. The women cite a recent report by the Environmental Working Group, an environmental research and advocacy group, which claimed to find traces of controversial herbicide glyphosate in Cheerios, Quaker Oats and other oat-based breakfast foods. The women contend that Bob’s uses la...
