Celiac.com 01/19/2021 - I’ve produced a short film around celiac disease as I wanted to put my diagnosis to good use and raise awareness in another way.

“A rhythmic short film which expresses the impact everyday life has on a newly diagnosed coeliac, and how she discovers her own tempo.”

So far it has been extremely well received with people with coeliac disease, and those who did not know much about it before. It has also been accepted into some film festivals worldwide which will take place throughout the next year and beyond.

I think critics of this short production need to realize that many of their misgivings target characteristics that were intentionally built into the film. The design of the film is not so much to communicate information but to convey an experience through depiction of mood and feelings.

YES!  In filmmaking this is called an "experimental narrative film". The point is to convey emotion and experience over strict storyline (narrative drama) and information (documentary or narrative documentary).  Think of it as an 8-minute version of going to see Godzilla, but with less smashing.

I watched it 2 times. Ok it gives a bit of the limitation we do currently have, that will force us to find new activity, new way of living and so on. I would like to ask to the people whom produced the video, to go deeply in the syntoms, which are not just diarrhoea and stomach issue as we all know. Still today I am hearing people that doesn't know anything about celiac, how sometimes I am feeling so numb or depressed. Ypu should also touch the mental health deeply, the chronic fatigue that will lead us to different other illnesses, and even self medication. I haven't been lucky enough to find the right doctors, and as it happened to many of you, when things get worse, it s where we do see many suicide or serious crisis. Hope it was clear enough. Good night folks

In my opinion--which I know isn't worth much--you will not find (or will have a very slim chance of finding) a doctor in the U.S. who can actually help you. Why do I say that?  Because Celiac disease crosses over into multiple specificities that Western doctors are not permitted to speak about unless they are such a specialist.

Until Western medicine embraces a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment--and so long as doctors get kickbacks (on the books or off) for prescribing medication--there will be little incentive for them to do ANYTHING OTHER than to prescribe you drugs to cover up your symptoms, rather than find the root cause of your problem and eliminate it.

Yes, I know full-well how very jaded I sound.

But this is the ONLY experience I've had during my adult life with the "pharmaceutical-industrial complex" that has been the norm since at least the early '80s.  Here's a hint: if you need a referral from a GP to see a "specialist", then you know it's a pyramid scheme.

Right doctor? You might try a naturopath or functional medicine doctor. I've found them to be savvier about celiac, leaky gut, etc. Good luck.

I get you. But finding them in a country that is completely polarized on the subject--not  unlike politics?   They are both a problem.

    Hayley Repton

I'm a filmmaker based in Manchester, UK. In April 2019 I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. The day I was told, I felt like I’d been slapped around the face with a wet fish. I immediately knew that I just had to put my coeliac diagnosis to good use and try to raise as much awareness as possible by making a short film! The aim is to help the people with celiac disease that sometimes feel misunderstood by making something which people without the disease can connect with in an insightful and enjoyable way.

The character, a newly diagnosed coeliac, has to say goodbye to all things gluten and embark on lifestyle change which takes her on a turbulent journey. The short film 'glutened' highlights the social aspect and the importance of taking cross-contamination seriously. More info about me is at linkedin and instagram.

To finally settle the matter he decided to order an At-Home Celiac Disease Test by imaware™. (See the video of our experience below).

When he opened the At-Home Celiac Disease Test he discovered a beautifully packaged home collection kit that included two instruction cards on top. The first instructed him to watch an online video to see how to properly collect the sample, and the second card included six “Tips for successful bloo...
