    Celiac.com 11/15/2022 - We get a lot of questions from people wondering which brands of over the counter drugs are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease. We recently answered questions about whether mouthwash is gluten-free, and also did a list of gluten-free mouthwash brands.

    We also get a lot of questions about Chloraseptic. Specifically, is Chloraseptic gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance?

    Chloraseptic is a popular brand of over the counter anesthetic throat spray that is used to treat minor sore throat pain.

    Is Chloraseptic throat spray gluten-free? As far as we can see the Chloraseptic throat spray and lozenges products contain no gluten ingredients, and list no known wheat or gluten allergens, and the Walgreen's web site does list Chloraseptic Spray as gluten-free.

    Depending on the exact product, active ingredients can include phenol; benzocaine, dextromethorphan HBr, and menthol. 

    Inactive ingredients can include: acesulfame potassium, flavors, D&C green no.5, D&C yellow no.5, FD&C green no. 3, FD&C Red No.40, FD&C blue no. 1, FD&C red no. 40, glycerin, hydrogenated starch hydrolysate, isomalt, soy lecithin, sucralose, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, and sodium saccharin.

    As always, read labels and avoid all gluten ingredients.
