Celiac.com 01/03/2023 - We get more than a few questions about meat and meat products, especially things like bacon and ham. Lately, we've been getting a lot of questions about corned beef. Specifically, is corned beef gluten-free, and safe for people with celiac disease? Most all corned beef is naturally gluten-free, but it might not be labeled that way. Here's the rundown.

Corned beef comes in both canned and fresh varieties.  With few exceptions, both canned and fresh corned beef contain mainly beef, salt, sugar, and sodium nitrate. Most corned beef does not contain wheat or gluten, or list wheat as an allergen, so most corned beef is naturally gluten free and safe for people with celiac disease. We've done a bunch of articles on corned beef, and even listed gluten-free brands. We've even done an article on how to have a great Gluten-Free St. Patrick's Day, which has several recipes with corned beef.

This is doubtless the best time of year to buy corned beef. In anticipation for Saint Patty’s festivities, it’s almost always on sale. Corned beef generally comes with a packet of cooking spices and while I’ve seen a lot of recipes omit them, a good supermarket will send you home with decent spices worth using. Give them a once-over to make sure they’re gluten-free. This version has an added kick from the beer, so definitely go gluten-free there.  However, whether you’re Irish or not, classic corned beef and cabbage simply tastes like home.

    Delicious Gluten-Free Corned Beef Hash
Celiac.com 12/23/2017 - The holidays are often filled with drink and merriment. Sometimes a bit too much of each, so as to leave a reveler in a state that could be described as hungover.
When that happens, this tasty corned beef hash is just the trick. Make it up a day or so ahead of time, then heat it up the morning after your fiesta, and top it off with poached (or fried) eggs for a tasty brunch that will help put you back in the saddle. Sure, you could buy it canned, but it's so much better made fresh. Plus, it will give you some practice for St. Patrick's Day. Hip tip: Make it a day ahead of time and reheat it when you need it most.
