Celiac.com 01/15/2022 - We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering if certain brands and products are gluten-free. One question we see a lot is about Mary Kay make-up products.

Specifically, is Mary Kay lip gloss gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is NO.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
It's important for people with celiac disease to avoid gluten, not only in their diets, but in their beauty products, including lip gloss and lipstick. Here's what we know about Mary Kay lip gloss.

A search of the Mary Kay website shows fourteen product entries for lip gloss. However, a search turns up no items listed as gluten-free. Mary Kay does not specifically label any of their lip glosses gluten-free.

A company statement to the website Glutenfreemakeupgal reads, in part: "Mary Kay products are not tested specifically for gluten content, and we cannot guarantee our products are completely gluten-free."

Because Mary Kay products are not labeled as gluten-free, we do not regard Mary Kay lip gloss as gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

Finding good cosmetics that are gluten-free can be a serious challenge. A number of companies make cosmetics and lipsticks and lip glosses that are labeled or declared gluten-free. Here's a handy list of gluten-free make-up brands.

Unfortunately I sold Mary Kay from 2008-2019. We found out in 2019 that I have Celiac’s Disease.  So I called Mary Kay, and the lady didn’t know that it was me that needed to know, not a client.  Well she told me  it wasn’t a big deal, it wasn’t as if you were going to eat it😱🤦‍♀️😱🤦‍♀️.  I sold all inventory and will NEVER support the company again.  It is critical to not use ANYTHING consuming or otherwise for some of us that are on the severe side of Celiac’s.  So I was really disappointed that she behaved as if it was no big deal!!

Unfortunately that attitude is prevelant. People do not understand and often make fun of people with Celiacs. My daughter is a teenager and it is extremely difficult for her. All of you out there with Celiacs, you are not alone!!!

Did You Know? Gluten in Cosmetics, Lotions and Makeup
Celiac.com 12/20/2019 - A recent site reminded me again to check my cosmetic drawer, or as my husband calls it, “my chemistry set". Have you researched your make-up ingredients for the possibility that some of those creams, powders, oils or gels contain gluten? I did this briefly about ten years ago, but I was lax with it because the ingredient lists were so small in size, in another language, or had some "weird" ingredients that I could not even pronounce, let alone find out if they contained gluten. Now we have the Gluten Free RN Web Site, and the author is working hard to separate the cosmetics into two separate areas “Safe for the Celiac,” and an area that covers products to avoid.
The Gluten Free RN answers a simple "Yes" to the query about whether these cosmetic products should be...
