Celiac.com 01/26/2022 - Even with a clear declaration by the FDA that all distilled alcohol is gluten-free, and even with our article listing top brands of liquor and gluten-free rum, we still get a lot of questions about various brands of rum.

One question we see a lot is about Mount Gay rum. Specifically, is Mount Gay gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is YES. Mount Gay Rum is considered gluten-free and safe for celiacs.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
According to the FDA, all distilled spirits, including rum, are gluten-free, so that means Mount Gay and other major rums are gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

Mount Gay rum, and other rums distilled from gluten-free sugar cane or other gluten-free ingredients contain no gluten ingredients from start to finish, and are naturally gluten-free.

Remember, unless gluten ingredients are added after distillation, all rum is gluten-free. As always, read labels, and choose carefully.

Always be careful with any pre-made drink mixes that contain rum, such as those intended for piña coladas — some of these ingredients could contain gluten ingredients.

    Gluten-free Mount Gay rums include:

    • Mount Gay 1703 Master Select
    • Mount Gay Andean Oak Cask
    • Mount Gay Black Barrel
    • Mount Gay Eclipse
    • Mount Gay Extra Old
    • Mount Gay Extra Old Peat Smoke Expression
    • Mount Gay Master Select
    • Mount Gay Port Cask Expression
    • Mount Gay Pot Still Rum
    • Mount Gay Silver

We especially get a lot of questions about liquor and alcohol. Recently, we've seen a lot of questions about rum. Specifically, which brands of rum are gluten-free?
