Celiac.com 08/17/2022 - We are constantly fielding questions from readers asking whether certain foods and products are gluten-free.

Lately, we've been getting numerous questions about Nutella, the much loved, oft-maligned chocolate hazelnut spread. Specifically, is Nutella gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The answer is yes.

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
For those who might not know, Nutella is a brand of sweetened hazelnut cocoa spread, made by the Italian company Ferrero.

According to the company website, Nutella contains just seven ingredients: sugar, milk, palm oil, cocoa, hazelnuts, lecithin and vanillin.

While it is not labeled as a gluten-free product, Nutella is made without gluten ingredients, and contains no allergen warnings for wheat or gluten. Also, large numbers of people with celiac disease eat Nutella without any issues.

For this reason, Nutella is considered gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease.

Be sure to see our article on Brands of Gluten-Free Nutella Chocolate Hazelnut Spread for a list of safe brands.

So its “gluten free” but not gluten free.

I hate it when companies do that. No thanks.
