Girl Scout Gold Award Informs the Public about Celiac Disease
Celiac.com 10/22/2014 - For my Girl Scout Gold Award I created a poster, pamphlet, and informational sheets as one part of my project. The poster covers definitions, symptoms, statistics, and links for further information. The pamphlet was created with the title of “Is Eating Gluten-Free Right for Me?” (See Download Link Below). The different parts of the pamphlet include “Having Celiac”, “Having a Gluten Sensitivity”, “Misconceptions about the Gluten Free Diet”, “Being Tested for Celiac”, and “About the Author”.
The informational sheets were based off of personal experience and were designed to help people who were already on the diet and looking for help. They were titled “Going to a Party”, “Going out to Dinner”, “Cross Contamination”, and “Hidden Gluten”.

These Nine Common Foods Cause Most Allergic Reactions
Celiac.com 09/06/2018 - What are the most common foods that can trigger allergic reactions in people?
First, and it's important to be clear about this, a food allergy is not to be confused with a food sensitivity. Food sensitivities are common and usually harmless, if sometimes uncomfortable. A food allergy, on the other hand, is an immune reaction that happens when the body mistakes harmless food, a peanut for example, for something that could make you sick. When you eat a food you're allergic to, your immune system thinks you’re body is being harmed, and reacts to protect you from that harm. This reaction can be as mild as a light skin ra...

Nearly One in Five Celiacs in Hospital Also Had Coronary Artery Disease
Celiac.com 11/14/2022 - Some studies have linked coronary artery disease with celiac disease, but hard evidence is scant. To date, there has been no solid medical literature on common risk factors linking celiac disease and coronary artery disease. Risk factors for coronary artery disease include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and tobacco use. However, common risk factors connecting celiac disease and coronary artery disease are poorly documented.
A team of researchers recently set out with three goals. First, to assess potential demographic differences between celiac patients with coronary artery disease and without coronary artery disease. Secondly, to examine the risk factors of coronary artery disease in celiac patients. Lastly, to compare celiac-coronary ...

Soaring Prices and Shortages Hit Gluten-Free Shoppers Extra Hard
Celiac.com 01/17/2023 - Supply chain shortages and rising prices have hit everyone, but people with dietary restrictions are getting hit extra hard, with extra high prices associated with a shortage of specialty health food products and ingredients.
Higher prices for basic ingredients means higher prices for products that use those ingredients. Jennifer Kinkade, the owner of Dedicated gluten free bakery and coffee shop in Tucson, Arizona, says that she's seeing the highest prices ever for specialty ingredients, especially for gluten-free flour ingredients and starches.
For example, Kinkade says her price has tripled for ingredients like tapioca starch. “The flours are one of the hardest things right now...gluten free [was] always expensive, but I think it’s even more expensive now...
