    Scott Adams

Scott Adams was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1994, and, due to the nearly total lack of information available at that time, was forced to become an expert on the disease in order to recover. In 1995 he launched the site that later became Celiac.com to help as many people as possible with celiac disease get diagnosed so they can begin to live happy, healthy gluten-free lives.  He is co-author of the book Cereal Killers, and founder and publisher of the (formerly paper) newsletter Journal of Gluten Sensitivity. In 1998 he founded The Gluten-Free Mall which he sold in 2014. Celiac.com does not sell any products, and is 100% advertiser supported.

When to Use Home Test Kits for Celiac Disease?
Celiac.com 04/01/2019 - Over the years, testing for celiac disease has become easier and more reliable. There are a number of home tests for celiac disease antibodies, and a number of reasons people might want to test for celiac disease at home. Those reasons include privacy, cost, and convenience. There are two kinds of tests for celiac disease, antibody tests and genetic tests. Let's start with antibody tests.
    Celiac Antibody Testing
The main antibodies targeted by celiac disease blood testing are Tissue Transglutaminase Antibodies (tTG-IgA). The tTG-IgA test will be positive in about 98% of patients with celiac disease. The trick is that people need to be eating gluten for the test to work properly. That’s an issue for some people who have already given up gluten.

A Breath Test for Celiac Disease? Yes Please!
Celiac.com 05/20/2019 - A stuffy and obscure-sounding scientific paper has more than a few people excited about a breakthrough breath test to help manage diabetes, celiac disease and other conditions.
Celiac is one of the most common and misdiagnosed disease. The process of getting a proper diagnosis can be long and convoluted. In part, that's because people with celiac disease may have few or no symptoms. In fact, these days, most people diagnosed with celiac disease report few or no symptoms.
In fact, it's not at all uncommon for a person with celiac disease to suffer for up to 10 years before getting a proper celiac diagnosis.
In diabetes, glucagon increases blood glucose levels. In diabetes treatment...

One Blood Test Can Now Diagnose Celiac Disease without Biopsy
Celiac.com 09/24/2020 - Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition in which eating wheat, rye, or barley triggers an adverse immune reaction in the gut. Celiac disease affects about one percent of the population. Diagnosis can be a long and arduous process. In the United States, the average person with celiac disease can wait up to ten years from the time of first symptoms to diagnosis. Left undiagnosed, autoimmune disease can cause organ damage and bowel cancer.
Anyone who has ever had to suffer through a long, convoluted process to get their celiac disease diagnosis can now rejoice for any new celiacs going forward. That's because researchers have developed a single blood test that can diagnose celiac disease without biopsy. Until now, the "gold standard" for celiac diagnosis was...

    The Best Blood Test Yet
Celiac.com 10/31/2020 - Since this article was originally published in 2008, the tTG test has become the standard for celiac disease screening, while a newer test called "Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP)" is now considered the best for CD, and the company 2G Pharma is unfortunately no longer in business.
Do you know someone who might benefit from a celiac blood test? Maybe they are too shy to assert themselves.  Or maybe they’ve been turned down flat by a physician who is not current with the medical literature on celiac disease.  As many of us know, asking for celiac testing is sometimes like hitting a brick wall.  Stories abound of incorrect diagnoses, cavalier indifference, dismissal, denial, frustration, illness, often leading to a pervasive sense of futility.  Each of these stori...
