Celiac.com 02/12/2021 - There are few soups more iconic than split pea and ham soup. Like a good clam chowder, a good split pea and ham soup is a wonder to enjoy. In this slow cook version, the simple marriage of chicken broth, onion, ham, peas and herbs, happens as if by magic, while you're busy doing other things. It's a delicious tribute to the great split pea tradition.
Ingredients:
- 1 package (16 ounces) dried green split peas, rinsed
- 2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 cup julienned or chopped carrots
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 quart chicken broth
- 2 cups water

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a four or five quart slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours or until peas are tender.
This soup freezes up really well.
Store in freezer in proper containers.
Thaw overnight before heating in a saucepan and serving hot.
