UPDATE 11/29/2022 - Celiac.com has been unable to verify the ingredients of this cereal, but it looks like there were some changes made since this article ran. Beware that this cereal may contain gluten, and be sure to read all ingredients before you buy or try Snoop Loopz.

UPDATE 11/17/2022 - This cereal may contain gluten, see the comments below. Celiac.com is currently investigating this claim.

    Original Article:

Celiac.com 09/13/2022 - For anyone in the know, multi-platinum selling recording artist Snoop Dogg (Calvin Broadus) is no stranger to the food business. His company Broadus Foods features a range of Mama Snoop’s breakfast products, including cereal, oatmeal, grits, pancake mix and syrup, with sales supporting charitable organizations, including Door of Hope.

Now, the 17-time Grammy-nominated artist has launched a new brand of gluten-free breakfast cereal called "Snoop Loopz",  that will be distributed to grocery stores nationwide.

Announcing the news via Instagram and Twitter, business partner and hip-hop entrepreneur, Master P, sums up Snoop Loops by inviting followers to imagine gluten-free Froot Loops, with "More corn, more flavor, and more marshmallows, that's what separates us from the rest. If you like Fruit Loops (sic) then you will LOVE SnoopLoopz!! http://SNOOPLOOPZ.COM"

According to the Snoop Loopz website, a portion revenues made by the food brand will be donated to a charity combatting homelessness.

"Every time you make a purchase of Broadus Foods products you are making a difference. We are proud to support charities such as Door Of Hope," it says.

Look for gluten-free Snoop Loopz in stores near you, and be sure to let us know how you like them. Check the Snoop Loopz website for more information.

Snoop Loopz is FAR from being Gluten Free.  The second ingredient(first being sugar) is Enriched Bleached Flour.  I know that Celiacs are incessant label readers, but I would have thought that someone would have done reviewed or fact-checked this information before publishing potentially deadly misinformation for your followers.

I can't find a shot of the ingredient list but the company is advertising it as gluten free, apparently, and this website says the ingredients are corn and marshmallows: https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/snoop-loopz-snoop-dogg-launches-breakfast-cereal-sparks-memefest-online

Can you link where you found the ingredient list? And is the bleached, enriched flour possibly corn flour?

It is right in the Snoop Loopz Shop, and specifically states that it is Wheat Flour on the Nutritional Fact panel.  Here is the link..  http://snooploopz.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/SL_nut_reg.webp

You are correct. I've PM'd Jefferson Adams to draw his attention to this.

We'll do some more investigating, but they make the gluten-free claim in several places regarding Snoop Loopz with More Marshmallows, for example:

Yes, I see that claim everywhere but on the company website. I called Broadus Foods and the guy didn't know what I was talking about. He hung up on me.

Scott, the Instagram picture shows the gluten free message in the lower right corner of the box. The picture here: http://snooploopz.com/product/snoop-loopz-with-marshmellows

of the "more marshmallows" product does not. Have they changed the formulation?

Yes, and all of the pieces written have used the same exact source for their information, including your's.  I want the claim to be as real as everyone else in the Celiac community.  I'm just saying that, if there is evidence on the company's own webstore that is contrary to what amounts to a potentially hazardous claim...  Maybe someone should step up and do their journalist diligence, and investigate the claim before regurgitating a Tweet and Instagram post by Master P.  I grew up with Snoop's music, and love the man to this day.  I commend his charity work with underprivileged youth.  However, I also have friends with children who can't even eat food prepared in the same building as wheat.  In recent years, there has been a decreasing amount of verification of information, and more of trying to be the first to post a hot "story".  I feel like I should pose a challenge for a journalist to do their civic duty to investigate claims for the safety of their community.

Celiac.com doesn't make any gluten-free claim about this product, only Broadus Foods can do that, which was made in a public Instagram post by Master P, who is a co-owner of Broadus Foods. USA Today, Newsweek, Celiac.com, and many other news outlets simply reported the gluten-free claim made by Master P of Broadus Foods about Snoop Loopz with More Marshmallows, which is perfectly legitimate reporting that happens on a daily basis whenever owners of companies do interviews, run press releases, or other public posts on social media about their new products, including GF re-formulations to older products. In this case his post included a box of this cereal with "Gluten-Free" clearly on the front, bottom-right corner.

Celiac.com has reported on dozens of new gluten-free products prior to their release, including GF Oreos, GF Cheerios, GF Rice Crispies, etc., as did hundreds of other media outlets, all based on company press releases or social media posts.

Your claim that "Maybe someone should step up and do their journalist diligence, and investigate the claim before regurgitating a Tweet and Instagram post by Master P" is absurd on its face because he is an owner of Broadus Foods, and is a perfectly legitimate source for information about his products.

As mentioned, we're looking into this issue now, and are responding to the concerns raised by your post within hours, and in the meantime have put a warning notice at the top of this article.

Yes, the original box said "Gluten-Free" on it, and now it does not, thus the added warning at the top of this article. We'll make more updates as soon as we find out more, but currently no ingredients are posted on this product on their web site, and we also cannot reach them by phone.
