    Forget the pizza & dairy free cheese.  Both contain yeast - a gluten cross-reactor! 

    May celiacs cannot consume yeast. The physician states it is chemically similar to gluten & tricks the body to react like gluten...I can attest to that!

    Celiacs do not react to bakers yeast found in gluten free breads, etc.  They can react with brewers yeast (i.e. found in beer).

    Does anyone know whether any of the other pizzas on the list are also nightshade-free besides Against the Grain Nut-free Pesto?  

    For those who don't know, nightshades include:

    • potatoes
      • yams and sweet potatoes are not nightshades and are, therefore, safe
    • tomatoes (all varieties, including tomatillos, ground cherries)
      • often hidden as "natural flavors"
    • eggplant
    • tobacco (not generally found in food)
    • peppers (not peppercorns, but rather the fruit--all varieties)
      • cayenne
      • bell
      • poblano
      • habanero
      • jalapeno
      • paprika (quite often hidden as "natural flavors" or "spices")
      • chipotle
      • literally all members of the pepper family
    • goji berries
    • ashwagandha

    Celiac.com 04/25/2016 - In a scandal that is shaping up to resemble the story of Paul Seelig, who sold "gluten-free" baked goods that were actually regular baked goods merely labeled "gluten-free," an Ohio couple is suing their local pizzeria for serving "gluten-free" pizza that they claim was just regular pizza labeled as gluten-free.
    According to court documents, the Reynoldsburg, Ohio couple claims that, on April 11, 2014, they bought a pie from Donatos Pizza at 7580 East Broad Street in Reynoldsburg. The couple claims that the pizza was advertised as gluten-free, but was made with standard pizza dough, which contains wheat flour.

    Papa John's New Gluten-Free Pizza Not Safe For Celiacs
    Celiac.com 08/14/2017 - Pizza chain Papa John's is warning consumers that its new gluten-free pizza is not safe for people with celiac disease or serious gluten intolerance.
    After announcing on Monday that it was introducing a gluten-free crust made with sorghum, teff, amaranth, and quinoa at locations across the US, the company warned that it does not recommend the crust for people with a serious gluten intolerance.
    An official statement from the company reads in part:
    "Papa John's employs procedures to prevent contact with gluten…it is possible that a pizza with gluten-free crust could be exposed to gluten during the in-store, pizza-making process. Therefore, the brand does not recommend its Gluten-Free Crust made with Ancient Grains for customers with Celiac D...

    Domino's Pizza Offers Gluten-Free Crust? I Think Not!
    Celiac.com 10/19/2017 - When I first saw the big advertisement that came through the mail I thought, "Wow, we are really getting somewhere!" However, when I read their advertisement my mind was quickly changed by what seems like false advertising.
    It reads like a great deal of boasting, followed by the "disclaimer" (At the bottom. Who reads to the end of an advertisement?)
    Here's the disclaimer:

    "Domino's pizza made with a Gluten Free Crust is prepared in a common kitchen with the risk of gluten exposure. Therefore, Domino's DOES NOT recommend this pizza for customers with celiac disease. Customers with gluten sensitivities should exercise judgment in consuming this pizza."
    If I hadn't read that disclaimer, I could have gone out that night and purchased a Domino's Gluten...

      Increasing symptoms after going gluten free

      Before my diagnosis I would consider myself pretty much asymptomatic other than a few flare ups of what I previously thought were ibs symptoms. After having iron deficiency as well I had a positive blood test and EGD. I have now been gluten free for about a month but my symptoms have gotten worse. I now have bloating, acid reflux, and pain in the upper abdomen...

      Global Food Gluten Free Certification

      That is strange. Other pages talk about testing. The one thing I like about GFCO is that the handbook for their certification process is available on their website. I may not agree with the whole process, especially the reduced testing, but at least I can see what the process is. I wish the other certifying organizations would publish their processes...

      Contaminated cooking oils

      GFCO does not require testing of each lot, so the “periodic laboratory analyses” fits their requirements. They say testing is done by certified bodies. I’m not sure what that means for an Italian company. The GFCO requirement is less than 10 ppm. Other gluten-free certifying companies may use other limits.

      Thanks for the info on Nuts.com! Looks like they are certified by GFFP which has a 5ppm limit, which is awesome. I was looking on the GFFP website ( https://glutenfreefoodprogram.com/gluten-free-certification-manufacturing/ ) as I was curious about what their certification requirements are, and stumbled on an odd statement. On a page where they're explaining...

      I second Nuts.com. Theirs seems to be good. My daughter can have their certified items without any problem. I don't even know how to process this!!
