Celiac.com 08/23/2022 - We get a lot of questions about which products and brands are gluten-free. We especially get a lot of questions about alcoholic beverages. Ranch water, for those who don't know, is a cocktail crafted from sparkling water, lime juice, and tequila that is especially popular in the Southwest.

One question we've seen here recently: Is Dos Equis Ranch Water gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease?

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
Like a number of brands, Dos Equis makes their own, using malt liquor and other natural flavors. Because Dos Equis Ranch Water contains malt liquor, it its NOT gluten-free, and not safe for people with celiac disease. If you have celiac disease, you generally want to avoid any brand with malt liquor or any other gluten ingredients. There are exceptions, such as Shotgun Spiked Seltzer at the bottom of the list below, which is made with malt liquor from sugar cane and is labeled gluten-free.

Fortunately, choosing gluten-free ranch water is easy to do, because there are a number of brands of ranch water that are gluten-free. These tequila-based ranch water brands that are either labeled gluten-free, or are made with naturally gluten-free ingredients:

It says Lone River is made from malt liquor.  Are we sure it’s gluten free?

Most of these products are brewed on premises by small breweries, and so not intended for mass consumption. So, brands like Stray Forth, and K4 may not be household names yet, but the market is thirsty enough to see a small explosion of hard seltzers in breweries around the country, especially in the midwest. You can experience the phenomenon in many small brew pubs across the nation, in places like Kinney Creek in Rochester, Minnesota.
In addition to being gluten-free, hard ciders are lower alcohol than traditional beers, with fewer calories. They also come in novel flavors, like Root Beer, Citrus, Spicy Pineapple, Margarita, Strawberry Lemonade, and many more. The combination of novelty...
