    Scott Adams

Scott Adams was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1994, and, due to the nearly total lack of information available at that time, was forced to become an expert on the disease in order to recover. In 1995 he launched the site that later became Celiac.com to help as many people as possible with celiac disease get diagnosed so they can begin to live happy, healthy gluten-free lives.  He is co-author of the book Cereal Killers, and founder and publisher of the (formerly paper) newsletter Journal of Gluten Sensitivity. In 1998 he founded The Gluten-Free Mall which he sold in 2014. Celiac.com does not sell any products, and is 100% advertiser supported.

Can Rituximab Treat Recurrent Dermatitis Herpetiformis?
Celiac.com 03/06/2017 - Dermatitis herpetiformis is an autoimmune skin-blistering disease which is commonly associated with celiac disease. The most common treatments are a gluten-free diet along with the addition of dapsone. DH that does not respond to either a gluten-free diet, or to dapsone, is treated with other immune-suppressing medications, but results have been mixed.
Now, for the first time, a patient treated with rituximab therapy had resolution of both his pruritus and skin rash. "In addition, the levels of both anti-tissue and anti-epidermal transglutaminase antibodies normalized," said Dr. Ron Feldman of Emory University School of Medicine.
Writing in JAMA Dermatology, Dr. Feldman and colleagues describe a man in his 80's with a five-year history of worsening DH. He was...

Celiac.com 11/07/2018 - A team of researchers recently set out to explore the relationship between dermatitis herpetiformis, as a common extraintestinal manifestation of celiac disease, and a gluten-free diet as a path to overall dermatitis herpetiformis improvement.

They are variously affiliated with the Celiac Disease Research Center, Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Tampere, the Department of Dermatology, Tampere University Hospital, the Department of Internal Medicine, Tampere University Hospital, and with the Department of Gastroenterology and Alimentary Tract Surgery, Tampere University Hospital in Tampere, Finland.

    Celiac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Celiac.com 07/09/2020 - Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals. It is estimated to affect 1 in 100 people worldwide, and is treated by a gluten-free diet. However, there’s also dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) to consider, which is basically celiac disease of the skin instead of the intestines.
It’s a skin condition characterized by groups of itchy blisters that commonly occur on pressure points such as the elbows, the front of the knees, the buttocks, back, shoulders, face, and scalp. However, they can occur anywhere on the body. Dermatitis herpetiformis is eruptions can be very painful, and the itchy rashes may progress to red, raised patches of skin that can develop into small, watery blisters.
To get a DH diagnosis you ne...
