Wondering which brands of professional dental care products are glute-free and safe for patients with celiac disease? Here's the rundown.

Celiac.com 03/09/2022 - Many people, and even dental professionals, are not aware that gluten can also be present in some types of oral prostheses and appliances, specifically those made with a popular acrylic resin called methyl methacrylate (MMA). Being exposed to gluten at the dentist's office is a common complaint on our celiac disease and gluten-free forum. A number of readers have asked for a list of gluten-free dental products.

Orthodontic retainers, fixed and removable dentures, temporary crowns, and denture repair material are types of products typically made with MMA. It was discovered in recent years that the non-dietary gluten found in MMA can trigger symptoms in patients with celiac disease and should be avoided. Since many companies do not label products as gluten-free, it is important to seek out products which are labeled or certified gluten-free. Consult your dental professional regarding gluten-free dental products for use by professionals.

Oh my!! I just went thru the experience (3 weeks ago) of having my upper teeth extracted and dentures put in on same day. My gums are healing well and I'm liking my new smile. But I've been sick for a while with the feeling of 'the gluten effect'. 😒 I'll be doing my homework 1st thing in the morning. Say a prayer, please.
