What's the Best Way to Find Gluten-Free Breakfast Near Me?

Reviewed and edited by a celiac disease expert.

Wondering what's the best way to find gluten-free breakfast near you? Here's a quick rundown with a few recommendations.

Celiac.com 07/27/2024 - We get a lot of questions from celiac community members wondering how to find gluten-free food. One question we see a lot is about breakfast. Specifically, what's the best way to find gluten-free breakfast near me?

Finding a gluten-free breakfast near you can be straightforward if you use the right tools and strategies. Here are some effective ways to locate gluten-free breakfast options in your area, but keep in mind that eating in restaurants does carry the risk of cross-contamination, and the more busy the restaurant, the higher this risk is, even if they offer a gluten-free menu.

    Use Gluten-Free Apps and Websites

    Celiac.com Sponsor (A12):
Several apps and websites specialize in helping people find gluten-free dining options:

    • Find Me Gluten Free: This app allows you to search for restaurants with gluten-free menus and read reviews from other users.
    • Gluten-Free Registry: A website that lists gluten-free friendly restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores.
    • Yelp: Use the filter option to search for "gluten-free" under dietary restrictions.

    Google Maps

Search for "gluten-free breakfast near me" on Google Maps. Many restaurants now list their menu options online, so you can check for gluten-free items before you visit.

    Celiac Disease Support Groups

Celiac.com has a moderated forum called "Gluten-Free Restaurants" to help people with celiac disease share information on gluten-free dining. Join celiac disease or gluten-free diet support groups on social media platforms, as members often share recommendations and reviews of local eateries that offer gluten-free options.

    Restaurant Chains with Gluten-Free Menus

Many chain restaurants offer gluten-free options and have locations nationwide. Be sure to speak with your waiter about your gluten concerns, as restaurants can be a source of cross contamination, for example if they cook regular gluten items on the same grill as "gluten-free" items. Some of these include:

    • IHOP: Offers gluten-free pancakes and other breakfast items.
    • Denny’s: Has a gluten-free menu that includes breakfast items.

    Health-Focused Cafes and Bakeries

Look for health-focused cafes and bakeries that often cater to special diets. They are more likely to offer gluten-free breakfast items like gluten-free muffins, pancakes, or breakfast bowls.

    Ask Locally

Sometimes the best recommendations come from locals. Ask friends, family, or colleagues if they know of any good gluten-free breakfast spots.

    Check Restaurant Websites

Visit the websites of local restaurants to see if they mention gluten-free options on their menu. Many places have a specific section for dietary restrictions.

By using these methods, you should be able to find delicious and safe gluten-free breakfast options near you. Enjoy your meal!

My husband was diagnosis celiac around 25 years ago.  We have learned with many restaurant's the best thing to do is ask a lot of questions and explain the situation to them.  In Ohio, we have found the best place for a restaurant is Bob Evans and fast food Wendy's.  Wendy's oil for French fries does mix with food that contains gluten, so he orders a baked potato with butter, cheese, and bacon with his burgers without the bun and have them change their gloves before fixing his food.  Usually they are very cooperative when they know there's an allergy.  Bob Evans has a gluten-free menu and so far the waitresses have been very cooperative about telling the cook he is gluten free.  Again, we are always aware eating out can cause cross contamination, so we do not eat out much.  Good luck everyone.  Being celiac is a slippery slope to navigate at times.

    Five-Minute Healthy Breakfasts
Celiac.com 08/10/2018 - You’ve heard for years that it’s wise to start your day with a healthy breakfast.  Eating food first thing in the morning gets your metabolism revved so you have energy throughout the day.  There’s also the issue of incorporating healthy foods into your first meal of the day.  Ideally, every meal should include fiber and foods from a variety of food groups.  But the reality is that most people don’t have time in the morning to create an involved meal.  You’re busy getting ready for work, packing the kids’ lunches and trying to get everyone out of the door on time.
Don’t fret.  The task of preparing a healthy breakfast just got easier.  You can make 5-minute breakfasts and, with a little bit of planning, you can sneak fiber into those meals without spendin...

Which Fast Food Outlets Offer the Best Gluten-Free Options?
Celiac.com 02/04/2019 - With the rise in popularity of the gluten-free diet, and with more people being diagnosed with Celiac disease, more restaurants are offering gluten-free alternatives. While this is a great advancement, it’s important to note that not all gluten-free restaurant choices are created equal. Even if food is labelled “gluten-free,” the risk of cross-contamination could still be high, especially given the speed with which food is prepared.
We see a lot of questions about gluten-free and gluten-safe fast food. One especially prominent question was “Is Burger King gluten-free?” The answer to that is that there is almost nothing gluten-free or gluten-safe at Burger King.
There are far better options than Burger King in the otherwise bleak gluten-free landscape...

Starting today at participating restaurants nationwide, Dunkin' is offering two new breakfast bowls, the Egg White Bowl and the Sausage Scramble Bowl.
And one question we've seen a lot, one thing many gluten-free eaters want to know is: Are Dunkin' Donuts Breakfast Bowls gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease?
First, let's take a quick look at the products and their ingredients. The Egg White Bowl is made with egg whites, spinach, roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese and caramelized onions and delivers 14 grams of lean protein and 250 calories.
