    Scott Adams

Scott Adams was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1994, and, due to the nearly total lack of information available at that time, was forced to become an expert on the disease in order to recover. In 1995 he launched the site that later became Celiac.com to help as many people as possible with celiac disease get diagnosed so they can begin to live happy, healthy gluten-free lives.  He is co-author of the book Cereal Killers, and founder and publisher of the (formerly paper) newsletter Journal of Gluten Sensitivity. In 1998 he founded The Gluten-Free Mall which he sold in 2014. Celiac.com does not sell any products, and is 100% advertiser supported.

Celiac Disease Autoimmunity Has Real Impacts on Kids' Psychology
Celiac.com 02/28/2017 - It's no secret that psychological symptoms can be associated with celiac disease, but until recently, no one had really done a solid prospective study on children.
A research team has now done just that. In this case, they looked at a group of children with celiac disease autoimmunity (CDA), which is defined as persistently positive celiac disease–associated tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies (tTGA). As part of their study, the researchers looked at a screening population of genetically at-risk children. They assessed psychological functioning in children as reported by mothers, and then compared the results with a comparable group of children without celiac disease autoimmunity.
They also investigated differences in psychological symptoms based on mothers' ...

Do People with Celiac Disease Take More Psychotropic Drugs Than Other Gastrointestinal Patients?
Celiac.com 04/10/2018 - Celiac disease is a multi-system disorder with manifestations that may result in psychiatric disorders. Does that mean that celiac disease patients are more likely to take psychotropic drugs than other gastrointestinal patients? A team of researchers recently set out to assess the prevalence of medication use to treat psychiatric disorders in celiac disease patients compared to other gastrointestinal patients.
The research team included Haley M. Zylberberg, Jonas F. Ludvigsson, Peter H. R. Green, and Benjamin Lebwohl. They are variously affiliated with the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases, Department of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, USA; the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska...

The Psychological Impact of Celiac Disease
Celiac.com 05/03/2019 (Originally published 10/08/2010) - Through some intriguing recent studies, we are learning that celiac patients share some worrisome emotional experiences that will impact their quality of life.
When I queried the ICOR Celiac listserv about how people there coped with celiac disease, I got reflections of many of my own experiences in navigating the illness before and after diagnosis.
From the answers sent and the research I’ve done on the topic, I’ve found that the celiac patient must contend with three major types of challenges.
The first issue is directly relevant to more than a third of the celiac population.  According to a 2009 study published in the journal Movement Disorders, 35% of celiac patients report a history of depression, perso...

Does Combined Gluten-Free and Casein-Free Diet Improve Behavior in Kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Celiac.com 02/28/2020 - Because therapies for people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are limited, alternative approaches, including dietary treatments, such as gluten-free and casein-free diets receive a good deal of attention from people looking for ways to improve the condition. However, the data so far have not shown the gluten-free diet to be effective in changing behavior in people with autism spectrum disorder.
A team of researchers recently set out to assess the effects of a gluten-free and casein-free diet on behavior disorders in children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and to look at the possible connection with levels of urinary beta-casomorphin.
The research team included Pablo José González-Domenech, Francisco Díaz Atienza, Carlos Gar...
