SPEAKER: Douglas P. Mitchell, M.D.
Dr. Mitchell, a Gastroenterologist with Heritage Medical Associates, will be
discussing who to test for Celiac, when and how to retest, and the
importance of gluten-free diet compliance. He will explain how the disease
has changed from ³severe malabsorption syndrome² to the current day
diagnosis. Dr. Mitchell will talk about malabsorption and the effect on
the rest of the body. He will also review when to see the GI physician and
what to do with non-responsive Celiac.
Dr. Mitchell is board-certified in both internal medicine and
gastroenterology, and has special interest in liver disease. He received his
undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical degree from
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and
residency, as well as a fellowship in gastroenterology at Vanderbilt
University Medical Center. Dr. Mitchell serves as a clinical assistant
