This is the only FREE conference that we know of! BGIG (Bellingham Gluten Intolerance Group) invites everyone to join them for a full two days of Gluten-Free Living at their 9th annual community Awareness Event on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1st & 2nd at St. Luke's Health Ed.Ctr. in Bellingham, WA.
Friday is a day filled with presentations and general information. Topics include: Gluten 101, Preparing a gluten-free Disaster Emergency Kit, Traveling gluten-free and other great titles.
Saturday the festivities start at 10 AM. But you will want to be sure to be here at 11 AM to join us for a cooking presentation with Karen Robertson, cookbook author of Cooking Gluten Free! a Food Lover's Collection of Chef and Family Recipes without Gluten or Wheat. While taste is Karen's primary concern in cooking, she will discuss baking with healthier flours and a gluten-free Multi Blend mix. Tips for essentials such as gluten free pizza crust and bread will be featured. She will draw on her recent experience working as a baker in a local pie shop where she learned some new methods and developed a gluten/dairy/egg free pie crust Ms. Robertson has cooked gluten free since 1997 when
her children were diagnosed with Celiac Disease. She has been a board member for the Gluten Intolerance Group, a gluten free cooking instructor at PCC Natural Markets, a gluten free cook for her family for thirteen years and a speaker at conferences. She is a past Associate Food Editor for Living
Without magazine and now contributes articles to the magazine. Currently, she helps those on a gluten free diet through her blog at www.cookingglutenfree.com/blog
On-going throughout the day will be gluten-free vendor tables, gluten-free manufacturers samples, silent auction, gluten-free book sale, health-care practitioner's info tables, donors' drawing, Healthy gluten-free Kids table and many other exciting gluten free activities!
