Event created by Scott Adams
The San Antonio Celiac Support Group invites you to a Winter Potluck Lunch:
When: Saturday, 19 February, at 12 noon
Where: Covenant Presbyterian Church, 211 Roleto Drive, Kitchen area (directions below)
Program: Baking Tips from Rita Sturzbecher
Please bring a salad, main dish, vegetable, or dessert. We sometimes run short of main dishes, so we hope that you will consider bringing a hearty dish to share. Remember to write out the recipe, or at least a list of all the ingredients, to place by your dish so that others can check for possible food sensitivities. None of us wants to be responsible for someone becoming ill. It is important to avoid cross contamination and use only ingredients that you know are gluten free. You can't just go by the ingredients listed on the label, either, as sometimes the company will say the product is not gluten free due to cross contamination. Some companies, such as Kraft, do say that we can depend on the label's list of ingredients, but for the rest, check with the company or refer to their gluten-free product list if they have one. And remember that ingredients can change, so make sure you have the latest information.
If the recipe for your dish is either original or has been changed at least 3 times, please bring a extra copy, with your name on it, and give it to Lynn Rainwater. We can publish these recipes in the Recipes section of our monthly newsletter.
Our chair, Anne Barfield, says
"After our lunch we will enjoy a talk by Rita Sturzbecher, who is new to San Antonio. She has been enjoying success baking breads and desserts for fellow celiacs for two months now. Come and meet Rita, along with husband John, and hear what she has to say about baking gluten free and where in San Antonio she has been successful at finding the supplies she needs. Rita is also a nurse, which gives her some insight on the celiac condition and the various other auto-immune diseeases some of us suffer from. I am sure she will have something good to share with the group!"
Directions. Freeway exits are now open for NW Military from the West. Going east, you can exit at NW Military, go over 410 and then proceed to the light at Lemonwood. There you can turn left and go that back way, or else get on the 410 access road and go around to Roleto.
If you are coming from the East, headed west, there is a Honeysuckle exit, which will require you to make a very quick right turn on Roleto. (Or turn right on Honeysuckle and continue to turn right to get to Roleto.)
