SF Bay Area Celiac News Briefs....July 29
The FDA has just posted its intent to hold a public meeting
on August 19th regarding the definition and usage of the
term "gluten free." This is a result of the Food Allergen
Labeling and Consumer Protection Act passed in 2004 that
requires a rule to be established by 2008. The meeting will
focus on gluten free food manufacturing, analytical methods
used to verify the gluten free status of products, and food
purchasing practices of consumers. It will be held at FDA
offices in College Park, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC.
Those attending must register by August 12. Written
comments may be submitted by mail or electronically.
