Celiac And Sleep

Moonlight-Magic

Recommended Posts

Moonlight-Magic Newbie

Hi, I get a lot of sleep problems as well as issues with migraines. Whilst going gluten and lactose free pretty much stops my stomach issues I am still having problems with what feels like hypersomnia alternating with insomnia and migraine headaches. I am wondering if these issues are separate or connected and if anyone else has had similar issues?

Before i went gluten free, i spent many a night (and one full night  ) wide awake. Now i have no issues sleeping (yay!).

Have you tried being casein free?

It took a while, but after a month or so of being gluten-free I started sleeping like a baby after years and years of insomnia. Now I hardly ever have a sleepless night. If being gluten-free did nothing else for me, that alone would be worth it!

I still don't sleep well even after gluten free so I take Benadryl. It helps a little.

I haven't had a real hard time falling asleep, but I take about 1 mg of melatonin and a Calme remedy at bedtime and I find I sleep very deeply.  a bit of mealtonin at bedtime might be something to consider to get you through this.

Thank you for direction.  Eating out is a concern though we rarely do, but I'm prepared now.

Thank you for the update.  So interesting to know how things are changing, when I was diagnosed I had very similar blood results but still had to have the endoscopy.  Glad you know where you stand.  As your father has celiac disease you probably already know a lot about it, but do contact us if we can help further.

But isn't it easier to just take a D3 supplement? Is the D light somehow a superior source? Links?

So the way it should be used is to take it before possible gluten exposure, so right before a meal at a restaurant take 1-2 capsules. Unfortunately taking it 1 hour or more after an exposure is too late.
