How Long Will It Take?

I have a 7 year old boy- he was diagnosed with celiac in December. He has done so well- but last weekend he had some nuts, I thought they didn't have any gluten- turns out I think they did. He's had a yummy ache all week. How long should it last to get through his system? Is there anything I can do?

Hello Brenky,
Welcome to the forum. Sometimes replys can be a little slow, I think everyone went out looking for some gluten free food. That can be quiet a challenge you know. They"ll be along shortly to help you out. I think everyones different on how long it takes to get over being glutened and how severe there reactions are.  I react pretty severely an it takes about a week. Everyone has little tricks to help get over it, but for the most part I recommend drinking lots of water. You are correct that they do add gluten to some nuts.

A hot water bottle on the stomach can be soothing.  It takes me couple of days to feel OK and more like 2 weeks to get back to 100%.  I hope he feels better soon.

L-glutamine can help with healing of the intestinal linings, and a probiotic might help his stomach with helpful bacteria...

Sorry he is unwell.  I hope he feels better soon.... I would indulge my kids with a bit extra computer time or a cartoon from the library. Pampering makes their brains feel better anyways.  ;)

Thank you for direction.  Eating out is a concern though we rarely do, but I'm prepared now.

Thank you for the update.  So interesting to know how things are changing, when I was diagnosed I had very similar blood results but still had to have the endoscopy.  Glad you know where you stand.  As your father has celiac disease you probably already know a lot about it, but do contact us if we can help further.

But isn't it easier to just take a D3 supplement? Is the D light somehow a superior source? Links?

So the way it should be used is to take it before possible gluten exposure, so right before a meal at a restaurant take 1-2 capsules. Unfortunately taking it 1 hour or more after an exposure is too late.
