Well, I met with a Endog.,.,. Doc today. He wants to take a biopsy of the small intestine Nov 10. He says to continue eating the Gluten foods up till he gets the biopsy results back. Then he will make a decision on Celiac disease, but he says my blood #'s sure look like celiac. I have a feeling the next few weeks will be tribute to all the great foods and beer I will never have again. SOB SOB SOB.

Om another note, I found a store (Mansfield/Storrs, CT Wild Scallions) that specializes in Gluten free foods a few miles from where I live. The owner's daughter has Celiac, so I will be visiting the store once I find out for sure.

Good for you for getting the biopsy. I know not everyone had a good experience with theirs, but for me, it was honestly a total non-event. I was supposed to be resting the rest of the day, but I had just moved so I spent the afternoon unpacking in my basement. I was told pretty much the same as you, that I should expect it to come back positive.

So, eat to your heart's content the next few weeks, enjoy it all and don't feel guilty. I swear I didn't walk past a single bakery :P . A lot of the gluten-free stuff really isn't bad, and you most likely find a lot of foods you enjoy are naturally gluten-free anyhow. You can send me an e-mail or pm anytime if you'd like to ask about anything.

Best of luck!

Yes! use your time wisely ;) When I was waiting for my biopsy, I had a mental list of all the gluten foods that I wanted to eat before I went gluten free. Like pizza, fast food, eating out at restaurants and ording whatever I wanted, ect. I was like you, I had a positive blood test and I knew after the biopsy there was no going back, so I ate lots of gluten!

Good luck with the biopsy :) If you need help with the diet once you've started just let us know B)

Okay, if the numbers look like Celiac, why the biopsy? If you really insist on it, fine, but I would recommend going gluten-free as soon as the biopsy is done, not until after the dr gets the results. I've read that there are more chances for a false negative on that because the biopsy may not get to where there is damage in your small intestine.

I agree, I think you should go gluten-free right after the biopsy. Why wait for the test results at that point? By the time you get the results back you may already have noticed improvement on the diet. If the results came back negative and you wanted to "test" youreself...you could then do so. Reintroducing gluten after a couple weeks gluten-free should give you some symptoms if you're celiac....unless of course you're asymptomatic. With postive bloodtests I think its safe to assume you shouldnt be eating gluten regardless of what the biopsy says....I do think its smart to have it done though. If its positive you will not have questions in the future but if its negative it doesnt mean you dont have celiac.

vitamin D levels in obsessive-compulsive disorder "The number of participants with vitamin D insufficient ... and vitamin D deficiency ... in the OCD group was statistically significantly higher than the control group... and also the number of participants whose vitamin D levels were in the normal range ... in the OCD group was statistically significantly lower than the control group." Low vitamin D iscommon in Celiac Disease patients. Also no lithium in drinking water (bottled water) or in areas with low ground water Lithium contributes to anxiety. Association between naturally occurring lithium in drinking water and suicide rates The EPA calculated a provisional oral reference dose (p-RfD) of 2 μg/kg-day using the Provisional Peer-Reviewed Toxicity Value   https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2023-11/ucmr5-technical-fact-sheet-lithium-in-drinking-water.pdf Should we all take a bit of lithium?! Raising my vitamin D to 80 ng/ml and taking 5 mg a day of Lithium Orotate for a few month helped me.

After 3 months without gluten he will have healed and his blood tests will be negative. That does not mean "not celiac, ok to eat wheat, rye and barley again.  It does mean the diet is working.  Many of those recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease are often deficient in vitamin D and other vitamins and minerals.  It's a side effect called Malabsorption.  Get his blood checked for 25(OH)D level to be sure.

Yeah, but that's probably not where you want to eat, anyway.

Anyone try this? No matter what the brand, probiotics have ALWAYS made me break out bad. I am hesitant to try this simply for that fact, but I ordered a 3 month supply. Any input would be appreciated. Wish me luck.

@llisa, I am curious to know how much vitamin D you are taking and what is your plasma level in nmol/L or ng/ml what the doctor's target 25(OH)D is. Hopefully with the gluten free diet you'll be able to feel better.
